ok im a high school senior with pretty average grades (3.2 uw) but pretty good test scores (1340 old sat, 30ACT). Im also a URM(African-American). I plan on majoring in either biochem or chem engineering. Ive already applied for a few private scholarships but i was wondering if anyone knows of any private scholarships i might be able to win (none that require going to an HBCU). I can write pretty decent essays so that isnt much of a problem(although if they dont require essays that would be great)

Try looking locally, since there is less competition than the large national scholarships that have a LOT more publicity & competition. Your GC may have info; ask your parents about what clubs they belong to that might offer scholarships; their workplace, where they bank, your church. Look around & good luck.

see thats where the prob arises. my parents just split up and i moved to a different state, at my school the GC that i have is basically useless and it takes weeks to even get an appointment with her. My mom works at a nursing home (shes a nurse) so i doubt they have any scholarships and she isnt in any clubs, also i dont go to church

What about your dad? Where does he work? What organizations does he belong to? Try calling your local department of education & asking them if they're aware of any scholarships or places you can get scholarship info in your city.
The bulk of financial aid is awarded via the colleges, so look at the schools you're interested in attending. If you're a resident & thinking of applying to a state school, sometimes there are scholarships, but research NOW.
