Private to UC or CCC? HELP PLEASE

Transfer from Private to UCSB UCLA Advice/Help

Hey everyone I'm currently a student at Chapman University and with the current economic situation my family will most likely not be able to keep me in this school. It works out alright because I kind of want to transfer. Two of the schools I'm most interested in are UCLA and UCSB. I got into UCSB out of high school, but didn't even apply to UCLA.

So far my college transcript reads as follows-

This totals to 28.5 Credits with a 3.126 GPA

For college I also have the extra curriculars of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and School Soccer Team

In High School I had a 3.68 GPA with an 1870 SAT score. I also had many EC's like Captain of school soccer team, Leadership, Sports Commissioner, Freshman Orientation Coordinator, Etc.

I am currently a Business Major Lead Minor here at Chapman. I would like to transfer to the Business Econ Major at either SB or LA. I have looked at the pre-reqs for the LA business econ program but can only find the titles of the classes and don't know if any of my units transfer. Does anyone know where I can find out more info about the pre-reqs to see if any of my classes will transfer? Does anyone know if any of the classes listed above will transfer? Is it even worth finishing up my application and sending it in because I probably do not have all the pre-reqs done (and I've heard they automatically deny you if this is the case)? Are the SB and LA Business Econ Majors similar? Are the pre-reqs the same? What classes should I register for to get on the right track for this transfer?

The main thing that worries me is the C- in micro econ. Will this be a huge problem? I know you can't retake for a better grade for a C. Is that the same for a C-?

I'm willing to (and will probably have to if I don't get in for Fall 2009) spend time at a community college. Will this better my chances much? I know that my GPA thus far isn't that impressive but am way more driven when working towards a goal, and if I know what I need to do I feel I can accomplish it. Mainly what is the route my best shot at LA and alternatively SB?

Overall this is a pretty tough time, and has made me really stressed lately. I know this is a ton of information and ANY ADVICE OR INFO WILL HELP AND BE APPRECIATED. Thanks alot if you've read this far. This is really one of the coolest forums I have ever seen and it's made me have some more faith in humanity that people like you guys take so much time to help out others in need. Thanks for your help.

You will no get into UCLA biz econ with your current GPA. If you go to CCC and get A in every course before the transfer you’ll be able to raise your GPA to something like 3.6. Then, with UCLA TAP, you’ll be remotely competitive. UCSB has lower standards though, so you’d be able to transfer there. My main advice is to stop taking 6 courses in one semester, unless you plan on ruining your GPA completely.
