<p>A tutor's rate definitely does not dictate quality. I charge no more than $50 an hour for SAT tutoring, but that's because my area is economically depressed and cannot afford much more. There are tutors in major cities, such as NYC or SF, who charge MUCH more -- on the order of $250 or more per hour! Are they better than I? I don't think so. Look for a tutor who has had a LOT of experience and a track record of HIGH improvements with past students (generally at least 100-150 points average with the old SAT). Ask for references; talk to past students. Do your due diligence, and certainly do not be afraid to cancel after one or two sessions if you do not think the tutor is working out.</p>
