I'm extremely overwhelmed with all the SAT prep books. I'm almost done with my SAT course and it did sorta help but it was lacking in the math section.

These are the books I have:
-Collegeboard's blue book
-Barron's math workbook
-Barron's How to Prepare for the SAT

I was thinking of trying to find a private tutor around here for the math section or verbal. Do you think it's a good idea?

Well if you can afford it, go ahead! I think a private tutor may help. It may help you dedicate yourself to studying. I am one of those people lacking this dedication so I would readily hire one if my parents would let me.

Kevster: A lot of people say the Barron's math workbook is significantly harder then the real SAT's.. hmm.. I hope it's worth it

sristi: My dad doesn't mind but my mom cares.. they spent $300 on the course. I was thinking of getting one for the math section but I get the lowest scores in Critical Reading/Writing so I might just find one for that. I orgininally wanted one that could help me with Barron's math workbook. I'm just really overwhelmed.

Harder questions means that they dont help you with actual problems on the SAT. Just cuz they are harder doesnt mean that the actual questions will be easier for you to do

I like PR review. It simplifies everything but I haven't tried it for the SAT. I tried Kaplan and Barrons and Barron's is definitely better. I also recommend trying the SAT online course from collegeboard. They have 6 practice test plus separate questions from each of the sections.

The Barron's Maths workbook though can help in understanding key concepts, and timing yourself....

Any advice for Critical Reading.... I miss the mark on the Passages, how should i go abt them.... i tried both the techniques 1. reading the passage first 2. readin the ques first
in normal course i prefer the former but when time is scarce i switch to the latter..........i get 10-12 wrong on reading passages (smaller ones ar not a problem but the in the bigger ones i tend to lose concentration... u know kinda simply forget what i read in the previous passage)

Well this strategy may or may not work for you...
I try marking on the passage while reading. I underline key words, phrases, and put a few words on the side of each paragraph summarizing what happened.
I improved my score 50 points from April to May just doing that. I missed like two or three questions out of the passage questions. But quite a few as I ignored studying vocab.
By the way, I don't read the questions first.

thanks everyone for your input. I decided I'm going to self study for at least a month and see what my scores are. If I'm not improving, I'll ask for a tutor & also I'll make up a schedule to get all the reviewing done.
