Pro/Cons of Penn State v. Pitt..and my chances of being accepted

I'm just wondering what everyone has to say about these two schools and the chances of me getting in. Anything that sets them apart, like what are reasons students pick PSU over Pitt. I'm leaning toward picking engineering but will probably go in undecided.
GPA: over a 4 weighted
sat score is 1220/1600 (660 Math 560 Reading) and 1730/2400
male and Caucasian
Instate
I know both schools pretty much only consider stats, but I'm treasurer of FBLA, run track, and apart of National Honor Society.
One of my brothers went to penn state whereas the other went to Pitt, can't really get an unbiased opinion from them

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I think both schools are good for different reasons…suggest that you visit if you have not already and see which feels right for you. My D was torn between the two schools and ultimately decided on Pitt because it was in a city and had a more diverse feeling.

College town vs. city setting would be the main difference. Penn State engineering is larger and (arguably) better. In medical-related fields, Pitt’s a better choice.

if you might want to do engineering I would not go in undecided especially at Penn State- also note that some engineering majors are subject to enrollment controls. [Entrance to Major](http://www.engr.psu.edu/advisingcenter/StudentActions/sa_majentrance.aspx#control)

If you are a strong student I would apply to the College of Engineering, then transfer out if you change your mind. The classes you take would be the same either way. I think that the minimum GPA required for guaranteed admittance into most engineering departments is 3.0.

I agree that Pitt may have the edge for premed and life sciences (though I’m sure some on this forum would argue that point), but it would be hard to make a case for their engineering program being close. (PSU, top 20. Pitt, not top 50.

I would second the above opinion. You REALLY need to visit each school and determine which environment would suit YOU better. They are both good schools, but they’re both different schools. (And I have a daughter at each school)
