Probably too late, but...

If I send in a different supplemental essay will they consider it instead of the one I put in the supplement.

I've just realized that this one is much better.

Thanks.

Dunno about considering it instead, but they'll definitely look at it if you send it as an "Additional Essay" via snail mail.

Will they even look at it if it's a day late?

I thought that making it instead would be better because three essays seems like a lot. I know that a lot of schools don't like getting extra stuff.

If it is feasible to send it, do you know how I would go about doing that?

Does anyone know?

I'm sure they'll take it a day or two late if the main application was submitted on time. It's like sending "supplementary materials," they add it to your file later when they receive it. You can attach a [brief] note stating that you would like to replace the original essay with this one...I don't think the admission officer will mind skipping an essay :)

People keep telling me different things.

"It isn't unusual to update an app after the deadline if you win some award or something, but adcoms don't want to read extra essays. Does either school allow for supplemental/optional essays? It would be okay to send it in as an addition, but asking to substitute it seems a bit much for me."

"They would refuse to accept the extra essay because it is submited late and other applicants dont have the luxury of submiting extra essays later. Point is, if they take your essay, which you've had more time to edit and perfect, then they would have to give everyone an opportunity to send in a new, better essay after the deadline."

"This would basically mean three essays, though, which is basically too many to have. I don't think they would substitute for you."

I still don't know what to do! I don't want to risk making the adcoms angry above all, but if it won't then my other essay would help I think.

Ack! Dude! Stay on one forum or the other!

You already know my vote: send it with an explanation. But first, BREATHE. Count to ten. Or eleven, if you want to be different.

Everyone who gives you advice at this point is guessing themselves. Nobody knows how this will affect your admissions rep other than your admissions rep. If this essay is really amazing, and you can't stand that they're reading something that isn't you, send it. Don't tear yourself apart over it. It's cool, trust me.

Your best bet is to call the admissions office and ask them.
But I find it hard to believe you'd anger the adcoms by simply sending in 1 additional essay...
