Ok so... i have a problem. :(

I thought i had an okay shot, but when i sent my app in in November, i thought the community prompt was more of just answer questions than an essay. So i answered what they wanted but didn't go into great detail or anything... i think it was a half of a page or so... Is this going to be disasterous?
Are they really looking for it to be a true essay?

btw… after yale, penn was my absolute second choice… I LOVE PENN

it’s an essay, and the only required one on the supplement at that. but if your response to the question was good i don’t think there will be any big problems. mine was pretty straightforward and i made it.

:(… if i have fairly good stats, will this mean rejection…?

… did you read what choklitrain wrote?

if you didn’t take the required essay seriously, in no way does it spell automatic rejection, but it will probably be looked unfavorably upon. as long as you didn’t proclaim your affection for yale or something, you should be fine

I bet actually worse than the above 2 make it seem. Based on the ED results, the intangibles are the key to admission to Penn.

would it be worse if i asked to resubmit… this essay does not reflect me properly…at ALL
:((

it’s out of your hands now. They might appreciate brevity or they might see it as lack of interest. Quite frankly, your oversight is quite indicative of that you don’t care about Penn too much so it’s a perfectly just outcome for you to not get accepted when someone more passionate and just as qualified wants to attend. I hope you get into Yale though if that’s your first choice.

I suggest not contacting them for a resubmit because the mistake is inexcusable.
