My d's october score report says that she's in the top 25% of her class. In reality, she's in the top 5%. When I called, the woman I spoke to thought that perhaps top 25% is the highest possible category. She said she would try to check because she'd had several calls. This information is reported to schools when they send out the ACT scores. Obviously, the schools will also receive the high school transcript which will show precise rank, but is this something to be concerned about?

No...colleges will definitely not pay any attention to that whatsoever once they receive her transcript.

The ACT ranking is in quarters. It is not used for admission but for recruitment. The ACT provides test score and rank information to colleges (not just the ones applicants are applying to) of students who take the ACT (and who do not decline such use on the application form for the test). Colleges then use that combined information to determine the group to whom they will send recruiting info. For admission, colleges rely on the high school transcript, or in the case of some (like the UCs), the grades the applicant reports on the application for admission.

yea - 25% is the top category.
