problems with financial aid at AIU online

I have been attending AIU on-line for a year. My major is Business Management, and I am getting good…great grades. I have been on the Deans list throughout my attendance. The on-line layout for the college is easy to follow and I really like it, but I am tired of struggling with the financial aid department. I have spent nearly as much time on the phone with them as I have on Intel-Path. My job is too get good grades, participate in discussions and be professional and courteous. I am doing my job, but I don’t feel like they are doing theirs. I took a LOA for medical reasons and I have not received recognition for the classes I have taken since my return. They returned my loan money and now I owe the college $800 + . They would not allow my to drop a class. They wanted me to sign in and then withdraw and take a W. The only other choice I had was to withdraw from classes completely This is crazy! I am 57 years old and a disabled veteran. I am back in school because I want to work using my mind not my back. This is not the first time that they returned my loan money in error. I feel powerless. It has become so complicated that I dread going back.I returned from LOA in early March. They say they returned my loans because I have not been in class since April &#$#^& Well they charged me for the classes so what is REALLY going on ? Any suggestions on how to handle this ?

I suggest you contact your state attorney general to ask about your college.

For financial aid purposes, there’s a difference between paying for classes, and actual attendance. If you didn’t actually attend a class that you paid for, it can impact your aid. For example, if you withdrew from a class relatively early in the term but after the 100% tuition reimbursement date, your aid would be returned to its sources, and you yourself would owe money directly to the school for the class. Is that what happened in this case?

Just withdrew today, I was a new transfer student. They “recalculated” my aid three times starting with zero refund, then 4,300, then 783. Don’t walk…run from this wanna be, manipulative, deceptive school.
