My son tried filling out every college we attended and it won't let him. I'm thinking we should ditch it.

What exactly is the problem?

what do you mean it won’t let him? What is he trying to fill out? What do you think you should ditch? The common app? That will limit his school choices significantly… Has he selected two schools ED? Or against rules (EA and SCEA)?

Common App had a lot of issues last year. Contact schools to see if other students are having issues. It was a nightmare last year, but eventually it got worked out.

He was trying to fill out the colleges where the parents went. The links would not work and you couldn’t search. He’s not doing ed. He’s just doing regular admission and prescreens. We’re getting a head start. Time is something we don’t have . He did report the problem already.

They responded with a possible fix right away and said if it doesn’t work, they will add it in for us. Hmm. I’m glad we’re getting a head start on this.

lots of schools had to extend deadlines last year.

Try a different browser.

Scholarme makes a good point. We had a problem with a couple of schools’ websites two years ago (can’t believe it was two years ago already). Peabody’s site was just not working no matter how hard my D tried. Then she switched from Firefox to Microsoft Explorer, and all problems vanished. Try a couple of different browsers!

That’s what they said to do. Well try a different browser and see if we need to update chrome. One summer festival app just would not send. I ended up printing and mailing a paper copy. I just hope it works. I don’t want to miss a bunch of sleep over it.

We had the exact same problem last year. We called tech support and it was an incompatible browser issue. I recommend that you contact the tech support for common app and let them know the problems you are having. Using common app has some advantages. So I recommend using it if possible. It’s a somewhat “one stop shop”. You upload your videos, head shots, resumes, etc once and than link them to the respective schools. Additionally based on my Ds profile, we received inquiries from other schools. Ps. I don work for common app:)

If you Twitter, follow Common App. Great way to get updates and quick fixes.

FYI some schools that use CA also use Decision Desk. DD is great. Never had a problem with it.
