Is anyone familiar with how the audition process works at Long Beach? I'm trying to help a young friend who graduated last June and is taking classes at a community college while trying to figure out if she can afford a University. Neither parent is apparently able to help her with this process at all and she's completely overwhelmed.

Having done this 2 years ago with a daughter in MT, I feel somewhat competent to help, but Long Beach has me a little bit stumped.

Past postings here on CC make it seem like you audition into the program from the beginning, but looking at their website it would appear that you have to get into the school first, then audition for the program after taking several classes (end of Freshman year? I can't tell). Perhaps their process has changed?

Did anyone apply/audition there this year or in the process now who can comment?

Auditions for incoming 2014 Freshmen are Feb 21st (see Audition info page) and transfers on Feb 22nd. To secure a spot, fill out the form and send it in with your payment.

I do not know if this information is still helpful for you. When our D was at the audition they said they were doing things differently this year. The school requires an application by November 30. This university is impacted so if your friend wants to go there regardless of whether or not she gets into dance then she needs to apply for a different major. Our D received an email from the dance department saying she was accepted academically and that she needed to sign up for an audition. She then went to the live audition. She did not make it into the dance program and was therefore denied admission to the University. I meet several moms there whose daughter’s had applied in different majors and were fully accepted and were just auditioning to see if they could get into the dance program. You can audition twice for the program, so if you are set on going to this school, I would apply for a major that you can get into. Start taking classes in the dance department and then audition. You might want to also consider CSU Fullerton, it is a strong up and coming dance program. good luck.
