So I was deferred EA- life moves on. Other college application deadlines are fast approaching- the majority of them (for competetive schools) seem to be between 12-31 and 1-2. And I just realized that today is the 30th. And I haven’t started any of these other apps. Yes, I know, I know. Don’t tell me about it.
Onto the point. I’m sure there are at least a few other people in my position who have the same question as I do. Will most schools take materials out of our control (counselor recs, teacher recs, transcript) after the deadline? I know that Harvard required the common app and supplement by the deadline, and if you had a transcript or something missing, they said they’d contact you and let you know (and presumably take them late).
Sometimes teachers and counselors make mistakes too (comeon, they’re only human!) and they could send in a part of your app late… even though you weren’t at fault, should you suffer for their mistake? I think most colleges would say no… anyone have a definite answer to that?

just as a side note, i’m planning on applying to a couple of these specific colleges (haven’t narrowed it down yet)- amherst and yale (12/31); brown, dartmouth, cornell, and hopkins (1/1); duke and princeton (1/2); columbia (1/3); georgetown (1/10), university of maryland CP (1/20) and BC (2/1). definitely columbia, dartmouth, georgetown.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only slacker around here. I really want to know the answer to your question too. If only I could wind back the last two weeks. I have 4 long essays and 2 short paragraphs to write before Jan.1 I need a hell of a spanking. boohoo

the recs are okay if they come in late, as long as you don't define late as february. but for your stuffs....better get them in before the deadline.

generally, teacher / gc stuff can get in 1 week late and they'll let it slide. but ur stuff has to be in. unless u were in the tsunami, u don't really have an excuse for not gettin it in on time.

for your definite colleges---columbia's is a relatively easy application (u can use ur common app personal statement)

dartmouth--get ur forms in (and they require a peer req too) and do their supplement
their supplement doesn't have an essay =)

i dunno about georgetown though.

pretty much al the other schools on ur list require at least some shorts. most require either 2 shorts, or 1 long. have fun...some of them are reusable though =)

....how could you have done absolutely nothing for the last two weeks?

at this point in the game, u might wanna worry somewhat about application difficulty cuz writing good quality essays takes some time. i know its kinda bad to determine what schools u apply to because of their application, but u have like 3 days to finish them.

If you're like me, you churn out your best material at the last minute.

The best thing for you to do is stay calm and relaxed while your write your essays.

As for your questions--yes, they will take the other stuff late. Make sure your things get there on time though, so that your file is created/opened. They probably don't start reading apps until February or so, so you probably have a bit of time.

i had the opposite problem.. i got sick and tired of looking at my undone apps so I turned them all in before I got my decision from Harvard and having to withdraw them all. I absolutely loved Amherst by the way, so I am happy to see it's a possibility on your list.
As for your question, I would just be repeating what everyone else said when I say that it is okay for recs and what not to be a little late because they understand that those things are basically out of your hands... but you better have your part of the app in on time because they are usually not merciful!

i had a friend who lost his life, together with 3 of his siblings, in the tsunami. he was an applicant to princeton and yale. the thing is, he had all his apps in three days before. his parents wrote to the universities to withdraw his application.

sorry to hear about that alyssa.. that's really really unfortunate. i lost my brother some years ago.. and sister this summer.

thanks everyone for the helpful responses.. i'll be sure to get all my parts of the app in by the deadlines of course, and hopefully i can get my transcript sent in next week when school resums.. and recs asap.

good luck to all the other procrastinators out there.. we'll need it! :D

what?! are you sure??? runs off to yale website omg!

edit: wow asterstar thank you thank you! :D hahah now i can do the other ones first.. thanks sooo much! ^__^
anyone know about any other extensions? ^^

I got a letter from Dartmouth saying they'd extend the deadline for me to the 15th...so I'm presuming that they don't really care...then again, I may be wrong.

oh, just updating college list since i can't edit it..
columbia, princeton, dartmouth, yale, georgetown, hopkins, brown (plme), amherst, rice, duke, tufts. list is almost definite.. except for duke, tufts, amherst, rice.
sorry if it seems like this thread is becoming a bit self-centered in my part... not my intention ^^

Umm...the letter said something about contacting me earlier about programs (I think that means they sent me some stuff) and since I didn't ever respond to them, they sent me an application which I got 2 days ago. It was from the Office of Minority Recruitment, but seeing as I'm Asian...I really don't think it will matter though...someone posted somewhere reasons why colleges will still take applications a few days late (I think it was Northstarmom who posted maybe....not sure)

nah, i'm just saying that in the context of college applications. would i rather apply as in international, with an extended deadline? yes.
not that i would rather live in indonesia than the us.
