Produce Patch's Farm 2U questions

Can anyone tell me about the selection at Farm 2U?
I'm an incomimng trasfer for the 2011-2012 year and will be living in The Village. I enjoying cooking well enough and figured it's best way to stretch my dinning dollars.
When I went to transfer day I checked out the market at the village and there didn't seem to be much of a secltion of raw ingredinats.
So I am wondering if the Farm 2U was going to offer a better selction?

Well I was just looking up farmers markets in la jolla and the surrounding areas. There is a really good looking one about 5 miles from campus on sundays, and i saw ucsd’s website said they offer one every tuesday. I also like to cook and prepare my own meals and will be living in the village. What exactly is Farm2U though?

if you want to cook, the ucsd on-campus farmer’s market isn’t that great. they don’t have a whole lot of produce and it’s mostly fruit, if anything. but the one in downtown la jolla on sundays will serve your needs. there’s a fair amount of produce - and lots of delicious food! - and it’s just a 12-18 minute bus ride from campus.

luckily ralph’s, trader joe’s and whole foods are all nearby because it’s tough to cook given what the campus sells… the produce at the Market sucks and is awfully expensive. so you’ll probably end up going mostly to the grocery stores i mentioned (all a short bus ride away) and maybe hitting up the downtown la jolla farmer’s market once in a while.

Thanks for the attempt but I was looking for info on specifically Farm 2U since they take dining dollars.

Farm2U is a mini farmer’s market that is located near the muir dorms and muir’s dining hall pines. It’s much smaller than the big one at town center and only consists of about one stand with two tables of stuff. Farm2U has a pretty small selection and it is also quite expensive. They normally just sell only a few types of fruit and veggies every time depending on what’s in season I guess, they might just have pomegranites, lettuce, and tomatoes one day, and strawberries, grapefruit, and avocadoes another. They also sell bread, hummus, jams, olive oil, pita chips, and fresh apple juice. An example of price would be the strawberries go for about $8 and the fancy breads are around $5. It’s pretty overpriced since a lot of the stuff is supposed to be fresh and organic, and they accept dining dollars. It’s really not enough to keep someone afloat though, most people only use it to occasionally buy something they’re craving or as a treat. So since it’s not really close to the village, and has about less of a selection than the market with about the same prices, I wouldn’t count on it.

Thanks Stigmata7
