I'm looking into transferring for Fall 2013 admission (thus mostly March 1st deadlines). I see the policies for recs are that they should come from the professor, or if they come from a TA the professor has to sign off on it. However, I'd really like a rec from the instructor of my freshman seminar. He's a PhD student but he was the sole instructor for the course. Would colleges to which I'm applying allow him to write my rec? If so, would they look unfavorably upon it?

Also, I was considering one of my recs coming from a professor whose class I'm taking this semester. How long in advance do I have to ask him for a rec? Am I allowed to submit the recs slightly after March 1st (or whatever the specific deadlines are) as long as everything else is in by that day? I've only had a week of classes, so I think I'd have to ask a professor from last semester who didn't know me too well instead if I would in fact have to ask him in a week or two at the latest.

Thanks so much in advance.
