Professor think that I cheated!

In my history class the TA gave my quiz and my “friend’s” quiz to the professor because she thinks that we cheated. I honestly didn’t cheat, the guy who sat next me copied my essay question WORD by WORD. The professor showed my the papers and it’s exactly the same but he made a mistake, I wrote “there is no way Jurgis had a good life” the guy wrote “there is no wall Jurgis had a good life”. It is obvious that he copied me! Professor told me she will talk to him and let me know what is her decision but we are at the end of the semster and I still don’t have a grade for quiz 1, but I got B’s for the second and third quiz. I also got a B on the midterm but that guy dropped the class and he didn’t do any of the quizzes or the midterms.

I don’t know what to do in that situation, please help!

thanks!

You could stop by your Professor’s office hours to ask what your grade on the first quiz was. You could also send an email, but in person might help you put your mind at ease (it’s easy to misinterpret emails). Usually if a professor feels you have cheated, you would have to have a meeting to discuss the consequences and possibly sign a misconduct form. The fact that you haven’t had to do that after the initial meeting early in the semester suggests that you are probably fine and the professor just forgot to tell you about it.

Learn to hunch over your paperwork in the future so people can’t copy your work.

Definitely go visit your professor and your advisor to see what would happen next. I would imagine there would be some process that takes place for these incidents.

Be careful who you sit next to for any quiz or exam. For me, when I was taking a sociology class last semester, I was taking an exam and I realized that the person next to me was copying off of me as I was going along answering the questions. Like what the person above me said, hunch over your paperwork.
