I've never taken Getty, but he is probably the best ranked history professor after Teo Ruiz. Supposed to be a great lecturer, funny, and pretty easy. That's why his class fillled up the fastest this qtr,f or LD history.

Professor Damon Woods is an easy teacher. Are you taking that upper-division course on Vietnam this quarter? I had him for SEASIAN-1 (Introduction to Southeast Asian Studies) To give you an idea - just about EVERYONE got an A- or better on their final paper in that class. I can't give you specific information on the distribution of grades for the class but a majority of the class earned A-'s or better.

He's an OK lecturer. He kept talking about his experiences in the Philippines during SEASIAN-1 since he grew up there and such.

His lectures are very organized. He did not use PPT slides. He uses his own notes. Try not to fall asleep because he can drone on.

Hey, Sandkicks. Two of the professors that you mentioned are professors I will be taking within the next coming quarters. I am going to have Getty for his History 22 course. I actually wanted to get a second opinion about him so I posted here at CC, and it was consistent with what I have heard.

Getty, based on his reviews from ratemyprofessor.com, myspace professor rating, and bruinwalk have him as a "enjoyable and easy person" so expect at least a B+ if you do the work, but a little effort and a "A-" should be very doable.

I will be taking Wood's SEASIAN-1 class summer sessions, at the recommendation of my roommate who said it was a "****" easy class. So I expect strong grades from both classes.

But I caution you, don't go into a class thinking it is easy, because that can all change with your TA. Your TA can makes an easy class easy, by being very cool with the grading but that can complete change, if you have a horrible TA, that is really anal with the grading, making an easy class hard.

I recommend for Getty's class, to speak to your TA before your discussion and try to break the ice, you can really get a feeling for your TA by their personality and how they come off. Also, be staright up with the TA. Tell your TA you want a strong and they will ensure that they do everything in their power to make that happen. BELIEVE ME IT WORKS.

If you need anything with Getty's class, hit me up. I am trying to maintain my stout GPA with taking this class so I will be on toes for Getty's class.

Daniel i'm not looking for an easy class. i am looking for a professor i can work with. Basically a nice professor. I am actually taking him for the history of Vietnam.

Daniel your a history major right. Who have you taken so far for history who you think is good with both ease and nice being factors. particularly UD courses. You and everyone else that reads this can provide any other info on professors.

The following is a list of professors who i enjoyed.

Corey-Do the work and you will do well
Teofilo Ruiz-Do the work and study and you will be fine.
Robert Israel-this class was a little bit difficult only cause i was confused throughout the class about my grades.
Gerald Wilson-Awesome class just study the songs and notes and do the concert report, and extra credit you will be fine.
Peter Sellars-Easy is all I can say
Richard Walter-easy just do the work.
Bruce Barbee-just do the work and you will do fine.

^Are they all history?

Never, ever take Albion Urdank. Unfortunately he teaches most of the interesting western civ classes like WW1 and WW2, but he is just an awful lecturer, probably the worst rated history prof on bruinwalk.

No they aren't all history hust corey and ruiz. but have you taken urdank.

Yeah. He's always teaching two history classes a quarter, which I don't get, since I'm sure evaluations say something.

hahaha. that is true. maybe he already has tenure. i know i really want to take a ww2 class or even the holocaust but i hear that that teacher is difficult as well.

Ah friedlander, yeah I hear he's tough, but actually a great teacher. so you're a history major too, dont see too many of us around here. let us know how getty goes, i'm taking gantner next qtr, a visiting prof.

have you taken 97 or 191 yet. i tried to jump into corey's 191 but i needed consent and i ran out of time.

i wish i would have signed up for teo's trip to france damn.

I actually like the fiat luxes. they are cool and require little work i am taking one one for history and another student run one for english.

oh yeah danielhagos... the TAs who worked with Woods and his fall seasian1 class are no longer ta-ing fyi

Took 97 yeah, it was a hard class. requires a lot of writing and essays. 191 is usually just one huge research paper. when are you taking them?

I am taking Woods class during the summer, there are no discussions, my grade will be simply in the hands of Professor Woods.

i seriously don't know when i will take them. i really need to at least get one of them out of the way soon.
