Professors with liberal agendas

I am interested in applying to Wake Forest. I wanted to see if I could get some feedback from students on how much of the typical liberal agenda i can expect. If so, in what areas of study?

This was one big difference my son noticed from attending Wake for 2 years, then transferring to a large U. At Wake he said only 1 prof in 2 years pushed their own personal political agenda. At the large U., he has found it much more common (only been there one semester and may be the classes he is taking). Anyway, at Wake he said he really didn't know how they felt personally, if the subject(s) came up--it was more of a class discussion. Granted the majority of his classes were science. Wake (whether it is true or not) has the reputation of being a more conservative school relatively speaking.

In three-and-a-half years here, I've only known the politics of two professors, one Democrat and one Republican. In general, I've found Wake to be less political than I'd like, although there are ways for students (both liberal and conservative) to be politically active if they so choose.

I'm taking a politics class now, and I have no idea what side the professor leans. There are certainly some extremes among the students though.

Refreshing. Thanks. What percentage of students come down on one side vs. the other? How vocal are they?

Well, if facebook is an adequate judge of political views: (note only 50% of Wake students on Facebook have political views in their profile)

Conservative: 28%
Very Conservative:2%

Moderate: 26%

Liberal: 26%
Very Liberal:4%

Libertarian: 4%

Apathetic:6%
Other: 6%

So in other words, it seems pretty even, maybe skewed right.

Looks like a tie! And good to know the profs choose to be discrete on their political postures.

excellent, after going to a MA high school where my teachers love to preach their liberal views to their students, this would be very refreshing

Welcome to New England Public Schools

this is a great question for me. i am applying to transfer to wake in the spring and the professors at UNC-CH are VERY much left wingers. it's almost sad how bias many of my lectures are.

Wake leans pretty far conservative with apathy in its student body. The teachers don't have agendas and don't give their views at all really.

yeah. i come from a high school where teachers freely "bush bashed" on a regular basis, disregarding the fact that some students (like me) may be coming from different backgrounds.

wake is definitely a politically apathetic campus. there are certain student groups that try to get the campus riled up about causes, but i've never seen this done very effectively. in my experience, the professors generally keep their personal opinions on politics to themselves, which i find quite nice.
