I'm looking through the class registration program and I was wondering if anyone knew about any of these teachers (I really want to be in classes with good professors):
D. Prowe, S. Yoon, L. Wilder, and please mention any that are really good in particular.

Use "Review" on Caucus. It has in-depth descriptions of most every professor on campus. If you have a student e-mail from Carleton, you can access the site.

Which class with Prowe are you interested in? I had him for the freshmen seminar last year, German Revolutions of 1848, and found it incredibly boring. That was by far the worst class I have taken here so far. I don't know about the other two profs.

Here's a general rule of thumb, wolfbane: if the class sounds really cool and interesting and you don't know anything about the topic, it'll probably disappoint you. Freshmen seminars tend to be this way because the titles of the classes are designed to excite new students and get them thinking about majoring in that area, but often the material doesn't reflect what the department actually does at all and the professors aren't often at their best in the freshmen-only, small seminar enviornment. My best classes here have been truly amazing, but the course titles and descriptions were mundane and I never expected to love them as much as I did.

You're not required to take a freshmen seminar, either, lest the materials they send you leave you to think otherwise. You can look at other course offerings (not just the frosh-only seminars) at the carleton website. I shall attempt to post it here, and if it doesn't work, blame the CC mods and their overzealousness: http://www.carleton.edu/cgi-bin/enroll/full/F2005 Also, clicking on the course titles will pop up the description from the course catalog.

Don't take the class with Yoon unless you are REALLY interested in Asian history. He definitely knows his stuff, but his lectures are completely disorganized and misleading, and he is a bad discussion leader. The postings on Review will definitely corroborate this.
