Freshman Studies teachers: the best and

the not so good

can LU students share some experiences with prof in this course?

My d told me of an aim conversation w/ a LU student where it was mentioned that Fr Studies was a fine course, and the student's first term had an 'outstanding' fr studies prof, but the 2nd term's prof was 'awful', and the students ended up running the class themselves, or something like this.

Feel free to pm me if you do not feel comfortable saying negative things about someone in this public forum. but please share the good ones, and what ist was about the good ones that made em good, so that we know.

Most are really good, but some aren't that good, that's true. It's really just like any university, some professors are better teachers than others. My first term of freshman studies was AWESOME, and my second term was "meh". It could be the reverse. You could have both terms be incredible, or both suck. Just cross your fingers and hope to be with awesome ones, that's all I can say. You can't choose which professor to take it with, it's randomly assigned I think.

thanks, kassos- I get you. btw, what does 'meh' mean? :)

Oh.. I couldn't define it. I'll leave that to urban dictionary Urban Dictionary: meh

:)

My first term of Freshman Studies was completely awesome. My teacher was really good at picking interesting discussion topics and I enjoyed the class every day.

Second term was horrible. No one in my class cared and the teacher liked lecturing us more than letting us discuss the material.

The professors are randomly assigned. The administration tries to set it up so that students do not get the same classmates or the same teacher both terms. If you don't get along with your professor, it's extraordinarily difficult to switch professors. I just had to stick it out second term.

Most people also say the books are better second term, but I think that's a matter of personal preference.

Curious about the experiences of past Fr studies students: did y'all read all of Plato's Republic or just excerpts of the Republic? Same question with Eintstein's Relativity.

I read all of it. Some people I know read only the parts that they talked about in class. It really depends on your teacher: with some, it'd be possible to get away with reading only parts but not with others.
