I am white/male. Although I was born overseas. Belarus (Eastern Europe) to be more precise.

Currently I am attending Baruch College (CUNY), with GPA of 3.7 and Double majoring in Finance and Math. Honors Classes including. I am a sophmore in this upcoming year.

I am an editor for the college's newspaper, and I am going to be in Student Body Government. Also, I am in Investment Banking Club and Economic Society, as well as Phi Eta Sigma (Honor Society).

My H.S record is alright, although my SAT is my cryptonite.
HS average was 87, SAT low ( 590 Math, 500 Verbal).
I was captain of the Wrestling team. Volunteered a lot.

I think (and was told) that my chances of transfering to NYU (stern and cas) are slim.

Thus, I am asking you to evaluate my profile and tell me what school I have a chance to transfer to that are ranked better than Baruch. (Overall, or in math/economic/finance departments).

I will start with Fordham, Pace (I got in when appying from HS, but I dont like it), St. John's. What else? I like Fordham a lot do I have a chance?

I agree that your chances for NYU are slim. Apply if you'd like. Also realize that if you do get in, at least from this year's accepted students, it seems that you won't receive housing (or will have very last choice) because you're already in New York.

Is it acceptable to take ACT. I mean, I am in college now. Will it be look be down upon?
Or that will help my chances with getting into....what school?

hey rateesquad, i have virtually the same exact profile as you do. I too go to baruch and am a sophmore except i am female. i have slightly higher sat scores and gpa. i wonder if we have ever had any classes together. from the looks of it you plan on staying in the city right?

Hey enzo,
Actually I reevaluated my decisions and decided to stay in Baruch. It is not that bad of a school. Plus, I am considering to attend either a Law school or a MFE program.
Thus, all I have to do is pull my GPA to 3.8 and do around 170-172 on LSAT and I might get into top 5-10 Law schools. THis is because they don't really look at the school that you went for undergrad. (although they look at the overall GPA of school, and by the looks of Baruch [only 3.0 avg.] I am doing alright.)

Hey, ENZO tell me what classes you are taking next semester. If you have any Honor classes I am probably going to be there.

You can pretty much count on getting into a T10 law school with those stats, if you can pull it off. Just remember that a 172 puts you in the top 1% of test takers, and there are a lot of smart people applying to law school. Study and make it work and it really won't matter where you did your undergrad.

That is why, I am starting to study in my sophmore year for GRE and LSAT.
Cheating with time, YES! Will it help me, YES!
Will I get 170? Maybe the chances will get better with time.

Logic is not that bad. The only thing that might kill me is the verbal part. That is why I am starting out early.

Haha that's good though. I have a year to study, though I'm sure classes will make it hard to do both. I'm kicking ass on the LR and CR already but the Logic Games are very tough due to time constraints. Good luck with your studying!

Got to love it though.
I hear good things about LR bible. LG bible is not that bad either.
LG are hard only due to time. I hate re-reading the problem if I dont get it right away.

Yeah, sadly, I will admit that I actually like this test, whereas the SAT and ACT were so boring.

If you're having trouble on the LR, definitely try the Bible. It goes over the problem types really well. Before studying it, I was getting 15-16 correct on each section. Afterwards, I'm consistenly only missing 0-3. :)

So what are you scoring now 167 and up?
Technically, if you break 170 at least half of the time on practice. You will probably get 172-74 on the real thing. As I was told by my friend.
What school are you looking at?

I'm getting 169 pretty consistently. Logic Games are easily my weakest point, but I've only just finished the Bibles and have been studying with practice tests for a little over a week. I've actually heard the opposite though - whatever you're scoring in practice, you can expect a 2-3 point decrease on the real day. Who knows what the case is. I'm going to keep practicing until I'm scoring high 70s timed consistently. ;)

I don't have any specific school in mind. Columbia and Michigan have kinda been favorites for awhile, but like anyone, I'll wait until I have an LSAT and GPA in hand before I decide where to apply and until I have acceptances/FA before I'd decide where I'd go.

169 is pretty good. You are almost out of those sticky 60's.
Yeah, study, study and more study. I will start going heavy on practice tests when school starts. I been busy studying the math for GRE, which consists of same thing as the SAT's. And pretty easy now. Why aren't I used to be that smart two years ago. LOL.

Ahh, Law school. Pain and pleasure mixed together. Three years of pain for me.(light pain b/c I am starting out this early).
Good luck and break those 70's

Yeah, I really wish I had an interest in grad school. The GRE's looked like the SAT on a little bit of crack - very doable. LSAT is basically brand new, though I'd swear CR is just like the ACT Reading. lol, well, good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine with that much studying.
