Profile evaluation request

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and would be grateful if experienced folks shed some light on my chances as explained below.

Fall 2014 PhD applicant from India
School boards >90% (school top 10)
Strong extra-curriculars like classical music (not all that necessary, I guess)
BTech in Electronics & Communication from NIT (GPA: 7.2/10)
Reasons explained in SOP
MS in Microelectronics and Microsystems from IIT (GPA: 9.7/10)
Departmental topper
MS thesis work on a particular topic but had interest in a broadly similar but category-wise different area (resulting in some conference publications while journal publications cover main thesis topic as given below)

Applied area: Nanoelectronic/electromechanical devices

4 extremely strong LORs and a good SOP (I think!)

BTech internship at IIT
MS internship at USC

Some TA experience in MS
Extensive research experience as a research fellow at IIT (~3.5 years)

6 international conference publications (2 IEEE SENSORS and 1 VLSID)
2 international journal publications (1 Springer and 1 Elsevier)
1 IEEE EDL (under review)
1 patent filed
[All publications are 1st author except for 1 conference]

GRE: 322 (nearly even scores 160/162) & 3.0
TOEFL: 112

Already accepted at Cambridge but waiting for US results (basically MIT and Berkeley)

Realistic inputs would be welcome as in whether the 2 schools I mentioned even look twice at such an applicant or are they directly sent to the paper shredder?
:-)

Thanks a lot!

Nobody on an online forum can do a “profile evaluation” for you, in which they tell you your chances. The process is very holistic and subjective and changes from year to year. I think schools sending certain candidates “straight to the paper shredder” is a myth. Basically, you’re just going to have to wait and see - you should get results in about a month or less, so try to be patient and find a hobby :D

Yeah, I get that. It is the reason why I asked for a statistical opinion from experienced members who have probably seen a whole lot of profiles that are generally acceptable. As for hobbies, I do have my guitar for that so I think I’ll manage. Thanks anyway.
^:)^

What I’m telling you is that even the one STEM professor who hangs out on here is not going to be able to give you a “statistical opinion,” as such a thing does not exist. There’s no algorithm for this; it depends on who you are competing with this year as well as the needs of the department, and no one on the outside of the department can know that information (not that there’s any kind of numerical value you can put on it anyway).

Someone can tell you whether you’re competitive for those programs, of course, or whether you fall into the average of most applicants. But not any kind of “70% chance of admission” kind of thing.

0-100% [Serious prediction - satisfaction guaranteed]

seriously?
