Profile for OOS students

This info was provided to out-of-state high school counselors by UT. You probably won't find this anywhere on the UT web site.

Notice that the mean SAT and ACT scores for admitted OOS students are significantly higher than for the general population of admitted students. UT is obviously using OOS students to boost the overall mean scores. This helps them offset the effect of the top 10% rule.

2006 profile for "out of state applicants":

30% admit rate (1326/4400 apps)

405 matriculated

Most got accepted to 1st choice major

1324 (SAT CR/M)

29 (ACT)

They aren't necessarily trying to "offset" the top ten percent students. I think the numbers you see are probably somewhat close for those non-top 10 percent students instate as well. They don't have a choice on the top 10 percent students, but outside of that, they have a lot more freedom.
