Profoundly Gifted

CTY online courses were our D’s savior throughout middle school years in a rural public school, as were state-run non-profit Gifted Associations . She accelerated one year, which was helpful, but profound learners plow through subject matter quickly, so after two months, she was topping out of her grade again. We found the online courses with a college level challenge but geared towards the 11yr old maturity level perfect. Ideally we’d like her to be in a group of like learners, but we haven’t found that yet beyond Great Books Summer Camp. Hoping she’ll find that next year when she’ll be heading to BS as a 10th grader (waitlisted last year at top BS’s I believe because of young age). Couldn’t agree more with the importance of not letting academically gifted kids slip through the cracks. Any other BS besides Exeter that acknowledge these learners?

May I ask how old is your child now, and where will she be attending BS?

She’s 14 and will be at Choate in the fall.

llamama- > How awesome your kids are at Davidson Academy. I am applying for my son who just turned 11 ! It has been heart breaking to tell him to hang in there, as he wants to learn at a faster pace…He has proved himself by mastering every class at schooll…his present school just wants to hold him back :frowning: We are applying to Davidson and wanted your advice on the assessment day !
