Program Admission vs. University Admission

If you apply to a college for their 7-year bs/md program, is it possible to get into the college and not the program? Or is it just all or nothing- either admission to the college and acceptance into the program, or flat-out rejection?

Yes most definitely. You have to be able to get into the college to get into the program, but if you don't get into the program that does not affect whether or not you will get into the university.

Oh, I see. Thanks!

I disagree. It seems that for the GW Program, anyone who is overqualified for the undergrad that didn't get into the Program is waitlisted. For example, I got into BU SMED, Duke, JHU, Rice. etc., a friend got into USC Bac/MD, Drexel/Drexel Program, Case Western PPSP, Dartmouth, Brown, etc. We were both waitlisted at GWU (undergrad)!

well i think GW is just an exception... i'm sure if you showed a real interest in attending the undergrad they would have accepted you... but for all the other schools it doesn't affect your admission decision

Oh right, GW is an exception. I forgot to mention that while I didn't make it into the Programs at Case Western, U of Rochester, and Rice, I was admitted to the undergrad.

I was wondering because I applied to RPI's program. After getting into a scholars program at Cornell and Tufts with some small scholarships, getting a half tuition scholarship at Carnegie Mellon, and getting admitted into Johns Hopkins, I got a rejection from RPI!

kpphy88,

Where will your friend attend next year? I was just wondering b/c I am in a similar situation as him/her. Thanks

He is off to USC Bac/MD.
