Prom at BS

Do boarding schools have proms? Or any major dances like that? Do certain boarding schools have a dance unique to them? I think Choate maybe has something called the Last Hurrah..

*note: This is definitely not a determining factor in me choosing a school, it's just for curiosity's sake and other people

At Andover, we have a prom and we also have two semi-formal dances a year: Sadie Hawkins and Blue and Silver. On top of that, there are tons of casual dances. Almost every week.

At Middlesex, there is Senior Prom [lots of seniors invite juniors and the occasional underclassmen though], and one other formal dance [casino night]. There are plenty of casual dances though.

At Exeter, we have a prom at the end of the year. All seniors are invited, and individual seniors can invite members of younger classes. It’s not a huge deal here like it is at other schools, more of a last goodbye to friends who aren’t seniors and an intro to senior week before graduation. There’s usually a casual dance every other week that everyone is invited too, and sometimes we host/attend regional dances where students from other schools are also invited.

Thanks for the responses!

007: whoa you have dances with other boarding schools, or just local high schools?

Students from other schools can attend. Some people from Middlesex went to an Exeter dance this past year. I unfortunately didn’t get on the list in time :(

@izzy, What dance? I don’t remember seeing any Middlesex kids, I know St. Paul’s came a few times and a bunch of us went to an Andover dance.

@loubear, Usually it’s just other boarding schools in the area, I haven’t heard of public schools coming other than local kids who live in Exeter (we call them townies) who crash every now and then :)

That is really cool

Haha that A/E dance was super lame. Exeter had to leave really early so it pretty much ended up being a normal Andover dance.

You mean E/a  Are you talking about the one last winter? I didn’t even go to Andover last year, in the winter my dorm was doing stuff that Saturday because none of us are winter athletes and in the spring Exeter didn’t even send off spectator buses.

Yeah. But I don’t mean A/E sports, I mean that one dance at Andover that some people from Exeter came to.

No it was definitely a dance at Exeter, and it was in the spring.

I know that Westover’s brother schools have proms that the upperclassmen can all go to. I’m not sure about the details, though. They also have casual dances that everyone can go to just about every week at different schools.

St. George’s has a Winter Formal. A black tie function usually held in one of the estates in Newport. Numerous other dances on the weekends. There is always something going on.
