I was wondering whether i would have to bring any formal clothes/dresses...>.<

there's a fall ball

there are a lot of dances but that's the only formal one in the fall

My friend told me there are a lot of dances I went shopping with her yesterday she bought tons of party clothes

how formal? i already left, and only brought three dresses. i'm pretty sure they are all WAY to casual to be considered even remotely formal. yep, i'm screwed.

There is a really wonderful shop in Portsmouth called Bliss where you can find sophisticated teen/20 something dresses, tops, and skirts. It is across the street from a Banana Republic, and also near a new store called Mojo ( seriously gorgeous jeans). I think Exeter does busses to downtown Portsmouth, but I am not totally sure. Many day students live there (it is 1/2 hour from Exeter, right on the water) so hitching a ride with a day student friend for shopping is very possible.

Special permissions are required to ride in the car with a day student.

but requires preplanning.

Of course. That was understood.

Caution about policy on a public forum where potential applicants and their parents lurk is my thought. Shopping in Boston is also an option for Exeter students w/ permissions and transport by rail is available. I frequently took the train in to shop and take in a BoSox game.

sportincourty-- it's not like prom or anything. fall ball is actually not formal but "semiformal" lol. cocktail dresses are fine

I'd bring a "formal" dress (knee-length or below, nothing too glamorous, so it can be multi-functional) and a few cocktail dresses, and you'd probably be covered.

the first dance is a the first saturday. dunbar's "back in black" dance. some of the people i talked to said only dunbar was allowed to wear black, some said everybody was supposed to wear black. so im not sure.

snap. dunbar would do that. a dance in the first week. and leave us clueless to the apparel. the jerks!
