lol, i was half-joking, btw:P

haha, someone is insecure and obviously bitter.

and why do you keep insisting that not going to prom is saving money? Is your school's prom ticket over a grand or something? A prom ticket probably costs as much as a month's gas money, assuming you go out a lot--which you probably don't.

Actually it is well over 400, that's what happens when you live in the suburbs directly above NYC. But this is the trap with talking to people about prom, you're damned if you're one of the many idiots who fall in line and you're damned if you're not.

400? Well I can agree that it's way overpriced.

but aren't you the one who drives a lexus? Why should you worry about saving money when obviously your daddy is rich enough to buy his precious one a nice luxury car? "Saving money" for you seems to be a pretext for not going to prom.

as for the girls, would you go with someone u barely know?
[/quote]
I think that going with someone that you barely know would probably be a bit awkward. I want to go with someone that I'll have fun with and can talk to, and it would be difficult to (easily) talk to/have fun with someone that I barely know.
I wouldn't be completely against it, though.

Lol, I never said I owned a lexus, just that I'm the one always driving it (parents using Metro North anyone?). Saving money is just a peripheral argument...it all comes down to the fact that I cba, and also that prom is set during a time that I won't even be there.

Although like I said before, mgs 4 is a better investment than prom. More (a lot more)fun, costs less.

they just don't understand the wonders of the cardboard box, piccolojunior.

i'm going alone. i will report back to you all about my experience. this will be settled in May.

haha exactly

umm isn't the suburb above NYC called westchester county? something like that? it's like the 5th richest county in the US.. and think about how many counties there are in the US.. ya...

^yeah, lol

Why are so many people here hating on prom? It's a huge dance where everyone is dressed up, gets to play casino games, dances, and eats dinner. How is that NOT the epitome of a good time? And is a couple hundred dollars really that big of a financial burden? It seems to me like the "waste of money" excuse is a bit of a cop-out.

Actually, it's quite a bit of money for some. Even $60, which is pretty much the minimum for my prom, is too much for me to afford. I have a grand total of $15...I haven't bought anything but food in years. And I don't have a car.

I was expecting the girl I asked to turn me down, and I wouldn't have been able to afford it if she had said yes. :-) Mostly I just wanted to prove that I could ask someone. I have pretty bad social anxiety around girls, and I had never asked a girl to dance or to go on a date or anything before.

Sorry for my stupid comment, junglebrain. I didn't realize that prom could be a financial burden to some people. It seems to me like a lot of kids say that as an excuse for their lack of confidence to ask a girl (at least at my school, anyway). That's awesome that you had the courage to ask her though, and I think you have a great attitude in going for it. I wish you the best of luck with your future dates and relationships.

or the fact that there are better ways to waste your money! :O

MGS 4 > MGS 3 > Prom (very simple and understandable inequality)

we should make a "Down with Prom" thread and launch tirades lolz

at least you guys even have a prom...

I don't think lack of money is a cop out!...Maybe for some people, but it's also quite normal for someone to want to go to prom but not enough to shell out hundreds of dollars for the ticket- and if you're a girl- for a suitable dress...

seriously, if you don’t go to prom or thing prom’s a waste, stop coming onto these prom sites and ruining everyone else’s night with your bitterness

i was going to say something else but now i forgot…

same thing kinda happened to me, i am a senior now, and homecoming freshman year i asked a girl and she said yes. And then the next day she said no to me on myspace in a message. I havent asked a girl to a dance since.
