Prom's getting closer and closer...

So, girlies-
I’m not going to prom (all-girls religious school that doesn’t believe in such things), but my cousin’s wedding is in three weeks and I haven’t got a dress.
Where do the fellow, um, awkwardly-shaped get nice stuff?

I honestly don’t what you mean by that.

I went to prom last year (junior year) WITHOUT a date and just went with my close friends and had so much fun! You don’t need a date to go to prom! Just have the best, fun people around you, which happen to be my bestfriends. My dress did rip while dancing last prom… Soo embarrassing, it was a short dress and it ripped from my thigh to a bit above my butt, it was horrible but then my friend gave me her spandex and I just had a blast and went to Mickey D’s after.

But at my school you need a date to go pretty much. It’s like reallllly formal and even suggesting “going with a group” would probably result is hysterical laughter. Everyone goes full out with long gem stoned dresses, full tuxedos, professionally done hair and makeup, limos, and they have a huge sit down dinner at the place where we have prom before the dancing starts. Tickets are like $70! But I’m just hoping to get asked still haha. I might just go to another nearby school’s prom because theirs is more informal:D

Nah ours is just as formal. You really don’t need a date, if you have a good group of friends who don’t care what anyone else thinks. Honestly, I’m glad I was able to spend junior prom with my bestfriends rather than being stuck with a date.

Yes.

The way you worded that makes you sound like you have a body type that’s similar to A) Spongebob or B) a muffin. There’s some websites that can help you did your body type and gives you some dress that are flattering for said body type. Go to a near department store a boutique and ask for that type of dress. Done.

I’m going to prom, but my friends and I decided that we’re just going to go as a group of friends since it’s likely that only a couple of us are going to get asked.

I’m shocked to find out that almost all of my friends have bought their dresses already, though. Prom isn’t until April/May! Maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t really thought about it yet.

I’m going to prom, but I don’t have a date…yet. Last September I was actually all set. My best guy friend (whom I also had a crush on) and I were planning to go together and I was also hoping he might ask me out before then as well… But lo and behold, my best friend started liking him and he started liking her (even though before, he had had a crush on me), and since she’s a little more out there than I am, she was more forward about her feelings. Now they’ve been going out for two months and I don’t have a prom date anymore :stuck_out_tongue: Most awkward situation will be later when I have to decide if I want to be at a table with them and feel really disturbed by their cute coupleness…

My prom is at the end of May, so I’m not really worrying about it too much right now. I expect I’ll find the perfect dress when the time comes.

so pumped for my first prom…our class is hosting it at the Ritz! should be fun as hell!

I can’t believe people have alreayd gotten their dress either, but my friend wants to go dress shopping next week. Prom tickets are going on sale at the end of the month. Let the festivities begin. >:]

I’ve never gone to a dance with anyone I wasn’t romantically involved with, but my little sister just went to formal with one of her guy friends and she didn’t have that great of a time. I’d say go with a group of friends if you can’t go with someone you are attracted to. Otherwise, it’s kind of awkward.

Muffin lol
You just made my day, Niquii… now the Spongebob thing is a bit too close to home…
I’ve pretty much been doing that for the past two weeks- going to stores and trying for dresses that flatter my body type. I actually found a nice one but my sister kidnapped it- if I got it, then it would be like when Lucy and Ethel got the same dress.
This is just making me feel very ugly and fat. Bleah.
Guess what I’m doing THIS vacation? Yeah, yeah…
So does anyone who isn’t classically skinny or classically plus-sized (I know of people who are heavier than me who look gorgeous because they’re more, idunno, evenly distributed?) know some stores where they have achieved success?

^ It might be worth having a look online as they’re more likely to have a full range of sizes, and often advice about styles with your body shape. A lot of online shops offer easy return services so you can order a few to try then just send back the ones you aren’t so keen on :)

I’ve tried all of those calculator thingies where you enter in your body type and they show you stuff, but it doesn’t really work out… body shapes are much less static than the four options they give. What kills me is that I’m not even overweight- I’m just weirdly shaped.
Sorry for hijacking the thread- go back to the prom talk and if I need anything else I’ll start a new thread :).

I wish people would stop worrying about prom… I’m a senior and I planned to go, but the girl I’d planned to go with (my ex) is a cheating skank, so yeah… Now I don’t know what to do, but everyone’s worrying is worrying me.

^ EliKresses, I am sorry to hear that. :frowning:
I have trouble with my ex, too.

I think I have a prom date? Today a girl who I make small talk with in AP Bio was complaining she didn’t have a prom date and I was too, and she said I could go with her… We joke a lot though, so I need to ask her if she was serious, without seeming… Well, weird, if she wasn’t.

I can’t wait to go to prom! Our principal discontinued dances other than prom because she didn’t like the way everyone was dancing so prom is the only dance all year. My school only allows seniors and their dates to go to prom too so this is my only chance. I just hope I can find a nice dress. I already have a date though because I’ve been lucky enough to be dating the same guy since freshman year.

I’m sorry for everyone who feels the pressure to find a date. I wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity just because you don’t have one though. My mom didn’t go to her prom and she regrets it. Get some friends together!

… and yet no one cares.

lol. seriously no one in my school even goes to prom

My school only lets seniors go, too. I would have no problem going with a group if friends, but here’s my issue. ALL my friends have boyfriends pretty much. My one friend who I’m really close with doesn’t though, so I feel like it would be even more awk if it was A and her boyfriend, B and her boyfriend, C and her boyfriend, then single D and single E.

Ugh I really want to go but I don’t even know anymore…
