what do you suggest is the ideal studying habit?

An hour of studying witha 10 min break?

It depends on the personality of the person so much. I listen to classical music while I study for 30 min and then a 5 minute break. I need that noise in the background even if I don't really listen. I dislike studying in groups because I get more done by myself... haha I don't know.

I can only study when it is quiet, and I do so according to the magnitude and importance of the work needing completion; if it is something that is for an exam or quiz in a class where I need to raise my grade or a major exam overall, then I study with little breaks (20 minutes every 90 minutes of study). Otherwise, I study for about 45 minutes without a break. Daily studying (review of material learned during the day's lectures) is done without breaks, since it seldom takes up more time than 20 min/class/day.

I don't take any breaks at all.

i heard it is good, because like after an hour your mind stops taking any information in effectively, so you take a break for like 10 mins to let it rejuvenate.

I guess it really depends on a person..
But I can do 5 hrs with 1 or two 5 min breaks.
The best study place for me is the library. It's not too quiet and it's not too loud. Plus, if it's gets too loud, I use my mp3.
Also, im a visual person so I always have to see stuff to keep my brain functioning. Therefore, I absent mindedly watch people while thinking. When I look at a wall, I get start to lose focus and tend to look at my nails and stuff.
In the start, I took breaks every one hour like it is suggested. But I found out that when I lose concentration of something for 10min straight, I lose the whole focus that I'd built up.

I started trying out differnt methods last year. I started with 40min. Now I can go 3 hrs without looking at my watch. Im not boasting or anything but you should really try out different methods and see what works for you.

^^^ I agree with NoFX; try out what's best for you. What's good for someone might not be so good for you.
