Is anybody going to be playing a Varsity sport at MIT?

I've been talking with the lacrosse coach for a while so I think I have a spot on the team, although I'm not 100% sure how exactly it works - I don't know if I still have to try out or I'm just on the team since the team needs more people.

I'm also going to try out for the Ice Hockey team since hockey's my real sports passion.

I have to compare financial aid packages but I'll most likely be playing fball and running indoor/outdoor track (60m, 100m, 200m, and respective relays)

well if i go than i'm on the soccer team...i think im a little different because i have like 4 or 5 scholarships to top D-I schools waiting (Duke, Wake Forest, Brown, Stanford etc) but i'm not sure i want to play D-III even though MIT is my dream school but we'll see...you never know lol

So I'm way late on answering this one, but lacrosse most definitely doesn't have tryouts, they're constantly recruiting new people. I play field hockey and it's the same coach and a lot of overlap with the players, and someone's always trying to convince someone else on the fh team to play lacrosse. The bottom line is, there will definitely be people on the team who have never played before, so it sounds like you'll be okay.

ivyleague: the "actual" team, by which I assume you mean varsity, of any sport would normally be the only one which had any sort of try-outs. Club sports may vary, but they'll typically take anyone with interest (although some are more rigorous than others and expect team members to come to all practices, etc), and any MIT student can join an IM team.

MIT has (by my count) 38 NCAA varsity sports teams, most of which are division III, but a few of which compete in division I. About 20% of students play a varsity sport.

I've recently become interested in maybe skiing at MIT. I've been skiing since I was 7 and consider myself an expert skier, but I've never competed or anything... does anyone know if I'd be allowed onto the team? Also, what does being on that team entail?

I'm between skiing and fencing. I definitely want to do some sport... but there's no way in hell I'd have time to do two, especially since they're both winter sports. =/

Is there any sort of an equestrian program? I remember looking at collegeboard.com and it said that MIT had a club equestrian program, but I can't find any information on the DAPER website.
