I'm looking to apply to the pharmacy program.

What do you like AND dislike about the school? How is the campus?

What do you like AND dislike about the school? How is the campus?

PROS:

CONS:

Obviously, as a pharm student; I’m a bit bias; but that’s how I see it.

So you’re a pharm student at Rutgers now?

What were your stats?

I have a 4.08 GPA (weighted) and a 1990 SAT score. I’m ranked 13 out of 561. And I’m out of state.
And how much do the essay and ECs factor in? I have not shadowed a pharmacist or volunteered at a hospital. Does that matter?

Thanks for the list, btw! I like that they have a big bro/ big sis program and the new Pharm program. What do you mean by Rutgers isn’t in the best neighborhood?

PS: What other schools did you apply to?

^ i think on the campus, it should be relatively safe.

but from what i’ve heard about living OFF-campus on college ave, it seems pretty dangerous. in one of the apartments i know, i’ve heard cases of multiple thefts and random people climbing windows, or checking for unlocked windows during the day, during the middle of night - all in hopes of stealing valuables.

i’m an incoming freshmen in the pharm program as well… but these are just some of the things people have said.

^okay, I plan on living on-campus anyway, if I do apply. But oh wow, yeah that’s pretty scary. I guess now I know why it isn’t in the best surroundings. Thanks.

I’m an incoming freshman.

I had about a 5.2/5.9 GPA, not sure what that’d be on a 4 scale; but it was more or less an A-/A with H/AP courses. My SATs were a little over 2200. RU didn’t post an ‘average’ GPA (since all schools use different systems) but their average SAT I believe was around 2100; with most students being in the top 10%-ish of their class… which you by far are!

I’m not sure how much ECs and in/out of state matters; but the essay isn’t required… I’d send one in anyway, though (for scholarships and whatnot).

I never shadowed a pharmacist; in fact I planned on majoring in a business-related field; but changed my mind once I found out that RU was doing a PharmD/MBA program.

I applied to Cornell as a reach, waitlisted then denied. I got in to Boston College and Villanova. The BC or RU decision was real tough.

Yeah, My big sis is really helpful; as are the upperclassmen on facebook; they’ll tell you stuff the professors and website won’t; especially when it comes to classes, and so on. Plus, you’ll get great deals on their old books.

Rutgers, especially as the other person said, off college ave in NB, is kinda shady. But it’s going to be that way for almost any college… they’re always built in less-than-perfect areas. I visited a few times, and it wasn’t that bad… it’s mostly the “crime report” emails they send me that scare me…

haha I’m not sure what a 5.2/5.9 GPA is on a 4 point scale either. But if you got all A-/As in high school it must be really good! I would have all As and a few A- if it weren’t for that B+ in spanish and B in comp. Grr. It’s a good thing my honors/ AP classes brought it up. I would hate to see what my GPA is unweighted
…

Anyway… lol

The essay is optional? yay! I’ll probably do it anyway lol. But that’s really good to know. And that makes me feel loads better that you didn’t shadow a pharmacist either and you got in.

I’m sorry you didn’t get into Cornell. But hey, their loss. You got into Rutgers, one of the top pharmacy schools. You should be proud. :-)

I’ll probably join the Rutgers facebook group closer to decision time.
The fact is I’m still totally undecided…

I’m already looking into other pharm schools like northeastern, Uconn, URI, MCPHS, and Purdue. heard of any of them? I’m impressed by Northeastern, Uconn, and now Rutgers. Actually, I was already impressed by Rutgers haha. So I still have a lot of deciding and applying to do lol. That’s the main reason why I posted this. I wanted to learn more about Rutgers and what sets it apart from the rest.

And now I know I have to majorly improve my SAT score. greattt. haha. Good thing there’s one SAT date left till decision time.

the crime alerts usually indicate crimes that happened on college ave,

Busch ( where major sciences are gathered, including pharmacy school ) is relatively safe, in my opinion. Who is going to have the nerve to ambush you on Busch? They’ll get shot by laser or acid sprays. lol

@High
If you get an interview call for school of pharmacy after you sent in your app, this usually indicates that you are on the border of admission, but they are not sure.

@Xu701- So basically, I shouldn’t pass up an interview?

haha @ laser or acid sprays. :-P

@high,

yeah, saying you’re too cool for an interview with earnest mario pharm school = auto reject

and yeah, no messing around on busch! or the engineering kids are going to hunt you down :)
