Decent education but everything else is nasty.

What's wrong with it? The Piscataway/New Brunswick campus is pretty nice.

Have you ever seen a really nice campus?? About 1/4 of NB is pretty OK, the rest is cheap and nasty.

Yea, I've visited Duke, Berkeley, Stanford, Penn State, and McGill. I agree that NB isn't the best college town but a lot of good schools are in bad neighborhoods.

the area may not look to great.. but the university itself is something I would love to attend..

It is a great school! My uncle attended here as an undergrad, and now he is a heart surgeon! Both my parents attended here, and I like it alot especially Douglass College. Camden campus is in a city so I didn't like that one as much.
michele

There isn't really anything that bad about the campus. It's a little spread out, but the new construction will make getting around much easier. It also has very different sections; New Brunswick is very different from Busch, which is very different from Livingston.
...and I should know as I live about 50ft off campus! ;)

Rutgers is an excellent school, the town itself is bad I agree. Their academics are great #1 philosophy department in the country, booyah! They also have other high ranking departments such as physics, history, pharmacy as well as other things. The food isn't bad, well prepared, pretty much everything you want. If your instate or even ou of state, its a great bargain. The tution difference is minimal like Ohio State.

i just got accepted to rutgers early action...wasnt really one of my top schools...what can anyone tell me about it?

Which one? I know the one in Camden is in a horrible location, its in the #1 crime city in the country. They can't really call it a city, since there are hardly any stores/businesses. Its a good school for academics at a great price, but I wouldn't want to go to school in such a bad neighborhood. I know all my aunts and uncles went to NB and one is a doctor, so it is definietly good for academics. Its huge though, if you want a small school go elsewhere. Thats about it.

Duke, by the way, Rutgers is rolling meaning that they read the applications as they receive them....
Which Rutgers did you get into? There are tons of schools just within New Brunswick... I'll be able to tell you more about them if you tell me which ones you got accepted into.

I got accepted into Rutgers State University of New Jersey...and all three colleges within it including the Douglass one and the other two...i'll have to check again...does that help at all?

I got into College, Livingston, and Engineering today. If I go to Rutgers, I will do engineering. I really like Busch campus and RU engineering is strong.

I applied to Rutgers under the impression that they did not do rolling admission. Are they a rolling admission school?

As far as I know, yes, they are rolling.

I applied to rutgers as a safety on november 1st. A friend of mine did also, and he found out that he got in like a week and a half later. i still haven't found out... when did all of you find out? also - does anyone think i have a chance for some $$ there? i am a NJ state resident... here are my stats:

GPA: 3.189 (yes, it's very low, but at my school they don't give up a boost for ANY honors or AP classes EVER)
10th grade: sci H, math H, spanish H, english H, history reg
11th grade: sci reg, math H, spanish H, english H, history reg
12th grade: AP bio, AP calculus, AP spanish, english 12, senior focus
(senior focus: similar to a senior thesis program, our school has won awards for it.)

ACT: 33 composite
(i don't do SAT...:-))

i go to a small private school in new jersey, i have spent my last three summers doing (2004) community service in Costa Rica, (2003) being a camp counselor, (2002) studying at the University of Salamanca in Spain.

president of the Gay Straight Alliance for two years
president of tour guides
jazz rock band keyboardist
winter musical, 4 years

varsity cross-country (captain + awards)
varsity softball (captain + awards)

Job experience:
Waitress
Day Camp Counselor
Babysitter

My friend and I both applied to Rutgers in Mid-October and have not recieved letters yet. And only certain programs at Rutgers have rolling admission, including the pharmacy program. But as my GC said, as far as he knows, it is not rolling admission

supposedly if you applied before december 1 it is called "priority admission", and they notify you earlier. (in my last post i said that i applied nov 1, but i actually applied somewhere from nov 18-25) So maybe that's why people think it's rolling.

Margaux should know me...keyword:rocketry, senior focus, blah blah blah.
Anyways, I got into RU EA. Pretty fun :P Now that I have my safety, I'm waiting for more responses from RD schools :) yayness

MargauxR, your stats are great for rutgers
