My son wants to move into Web next year. This year in Birnkratz. Any pros or cons people could share? He is in engineering school.
thanks

One of the main problems with Webb Tower is that it is very difficult to get into. It is one of the few examples of upperclassman housing available on campus, and is a very popular place. I have never personally lived there, so I can't comment on the accommodations. He will not be able to live in Birnkrant because he will no longer be a freshman.

i live there this year, and am also in the engineering school. downsides?

hmm...can't think of any :D

well, i'll be fair...it's a tad bit more expensive than other options, notably the Troy Halls. also, they lock the stairwells except on the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 10th floors (so basically no going up the stairs...going down is fine), so you always have wait for the elevator, though many times you won't have to wait long if at all.

otherwise, Webb is amazing...it's clean, doesn't have much if any of a pest problem (especially if you live on a higher floor like i do), the furniture is nice and posh (yes, posh...i always like to point out how we have a suede lazy chair and how our lamps are all curvy and modern-like). location-wise, it's very central to everything except VKC and Leavey (which still isn't a bad trip). the engineering school is down McClintock, Superior/UV and the Bank of America are across the street, and probably best of all, the gym is literally 10 steps away from the exit of Webb. also the view...you'll get a reasonable view from any floor above the 4th or 5th, and it just gets better as you go higher. i love the place...i can't say i'll live there again next year though, you start to want more independence after living on campus for two years.

Nikara, can't upperclassmen stay in Birnkrant up on the eighth floor?

I'm pretty sure that next year they aren't allowing returning residents. When we get back, ask housing- they will be able to clarify.

Yes i live in webb too and I love the place. I chose a studio so it wasn't all that expensive. Studio's basically like a dorm room with your own kitchen and bathroom which is really nice :) I can't think of any problems because other places are just as easy to break in (have broke into birnkrant and century and cardinal)

what are some other preferred options for sophomore housing?

I visited a friend's apt in Webb and the only bad thing I can come up with is that the toilet, sinks, and showers are located in the same room which COULD get inconvenient but its not that big of a deal, it's just nice to have them in different rooms (like in Troy/Cardinal).

Personally, preferred housing options are upperclassmen are Cardinal, Troy East/Troy Hall, Webb, and Parkside Apts.
