Pros/Cons of each dorm?

San Nic has more people than Anacapa (San Nic has eight floors while Anacapa has two) and better beach views. The ocean views on the 7th and 8th floors of San Nic surpass Anacapa’s 2nd floor view, although it does depend on which room you get.

FT is indeed the most social, but it is extremely inconvenient to have to bike 10-12 minutes everyday to and from class. Also, if you just woke up but are late for a class, you are going to be much more late than someone in the same situation who lives in the Channel-5 Island dorm area. Many FT residents tend to skip class completely when it rains during winter quarter because they don’t want to bike through puddles and get the freshman stripe on their backs.

I didn’t rank FT first because it just doesn’t have the benefit of living in an on-campus dorm and being near your classes.

how many people per bathroom in san nic?

At San Nic and just about every dorm with this type of bathroom it’s probably around 40-50 people per bathroom.

I haven’t heard anything about the Santa Cruz dorms, and those are the ones I’m interested in for the substance free floor and since FT doesn’t seem like my fit. Any input on them?

anacapa and santa cruz have approximately the same amount of people in them. however, rather than being stacked like san nic is, it’s spread out into 4 wings of 2 stories each. therefore there is the same amount of stories in san nic thus there are about the same number of people in each

But since san nic is like eight stories, its a fire hazard to have more than two people per room. So three people per room in the other dorms is much more likely

i live in santa cruz and i only know of one triple on my floor

since san nic is divided to half girls half guys on each floor it’s more like 20 per restroom

at san nic are the girls and guys rooms divided into separate wings or how does that work?

yea. san nic looks like a L from birds eye view. one leg of the L houses the guys and the other the girls. and it alternates floors except the 8th, where it’s all girls. and both gender have their own restroom but it’s a bit smaller than the other dorms ( 3 stalls compared to 5)

So I missed out on the Spring Insight…when is a good time to go an visit the campus again? ( I live 2 hours away!) Also, which dorm hall would you most recommend for me?

-a lot of social experience. (partying and studying)
-decent dorm life (close-knit hallmates)
-okay/good food and an okay/good view
-exercise gym
-meeting a variety of people (not just freshmans)
-being around a lot of other places to visit.

 • bring a car? ( Do I need a bike? )

thank you!

that one is going to be hard to answer:

the most social dorm would have to be FT
i would say a decent dorm life would have to be san nic (mazanita if you try)
food and view: channel 5 dorms because some have ocean view and a choice of two close dinning commons
exercise gym: santa rosa or FT
meeting a variety of people: mazanita or san raf
being around a lot of other places: all dorms
bring a car: FT has it’s own parking lot

I live in Manzanita right now, and it is NOT an antisocial dorm AT ALL. I don’t know what these people are saying. Sure, since there are separate buildings and all, it may be broken up into smaller chunks, but it is definitely very social! It’s not like the housing office purposely puts certain types of people in certain dorms based on their sociability. Best of all, it’s right next to IV, so what is there to worry about?

^Do you live in a freshman house or an upperclass one? I lived in an upperclassmen house and it was definitely very anti-social. I had to find my entertainment elsewhere.

is all dorms for 2 people or liek 4? which dorm is for 2 students only.

some one should make a list of all the infos about campuses

I live in FT right now and I absolutely LOVEE it. I lived in San Nic last summer for FSSP and FT is sooo much better. The rooms are so much bigger, we have our own bathroom between the two suits, a pretty decent fitness room, and our own pool. Sure the bike ride might get old sometimes, but the bus system is awesome and besides the 5-10 min bike ride helps keep you in shape a bit. The floors are also co-ed (guys live across from girls) which has helped me make some pretty great friends. Pick FT if you’re torn between which one to pick!

So I picked FT (because I read that it’s the most social dorm and I want to make friends, and the not having to share a bathroom with 25+ people is good too =) but I was just wondering about the closet space…

It’s a stupid question, but I have a lot clothes that I want to bring along and I was just wondering.

*I don’t have a huge walk in closet, but I’m assuming dorm room closets would be smaller than mine…which is relatively minute.

Question: Which is the most substance-free alcohol-free dorm?

none most people drink and there isnt one dorm that has the least number of drinkers

so what does everyone mean by ghetto for san miguel…like are there ghetto people? or do you guys mean that it is not as nice as the other dorms?

* none most people drink and there isnt one dorm that has the least number of drinkers *

There’s very little drinking in the upper-classmen Manzanita dorms. Take my word for it, I lived there 2.5 years :)
