Hey ya’ll, I’m a prospective Bowdoin recruit (if a rather late season one) I would appreciate quick replies to this because I need to get back to the coach ASAP. I know Bowdoin is a fantastic school, but as a student whose career path will almost certainly be engineering, computer science, math, physics, maybe economics/finance, I was wondering how those departments and post-grad opportunities at Bowdoin compared to that of other schools, for example UPENN, Northwestern, MIT, Tufts, other LACs, etc. Thanks so much for the help.

bumppppppppppppp

a lot of opportunity to do research with professors and help with their research as an independent study or honors project. some of my friends have even had the chance to publish or present their research at conferences. Not sure how this compares with other schools, but i think this is the type of work that would go to grad students at bigger universities. It’s also the type of work that can make you stand out when applying to higher degree programs.

It’s likely the OP has made his or her decision, but for future reference I will mention that my son, a physics and comp sci double major, received 3 offers to stay on campus this summer (after his sophomore year!) to do paid research. I think that is extraordinary. I know of a few other Bowdoin grads in the fields of engineering, comp sci and math and all benefitted from a Bowdoin “bump” in grad school.

I hope science and math kids understand the incredible opportunity that Bowdoin offers them.
