Well, I’m done with all the Ivy League rejections and now I have to decide between the schools above. Though I still don’t know specifics I mostly enjoy math and science. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, Rutgers honors full ride, but its just down the road.

Bowdoin!!! If you really want good science and math, Bowdoin has both, the faculty for mathematics, biology, chemistry, biochem, and neuroscience (are outstanding! I can testify since I've taken classes in each of the departments). Plus your research opportunities at Bowdoin will be very abundant! Also if you would like to get to know faculty members really well, Bowdoin provides the right enviroment for you to do so.

Tufts or Bowdoin for your academic interests.

I'll speak for Tufts as Bowdoin is well-represented in this forum :)

Tufts has great math/sci departments, and it presents the best of both worlds: it's a research university with all the pros that come with that but with a LAC size and feel which means you still get all the close interaction with faculty members and opportunities for your own research. Furthermore, research at the undergrad level is incredibly well-funded at Tufts. i have several friends who have been published in national reviews/journals.

I would begin by eliminating Colgate - an excellent school, but below Bowdoin/Tufts. SAT-wise, student-wise, teacher-wise --> Bowdoin and Tufts will be equal (no question). Atmosphere is what will be most important. Do you want small LAC in Maine with beautiful surroundings? Or research university near big city?

how would you compare Bowdoin, Vassar and Wesleyan in terms of science?<

All three offer research opportunities for their science majors through the Howard Hughes program and other grants designed for liberal arts colleges; I think Wesleyan faculty because they are able to do lab work all year round, probably garner a slightly more complex level of research.

When it comes to LACs, you'd have to have your head examined to base a decision solely on rankings, especially at the level of Wesleyan, Vassar and Bowdoin; they're too similar academically and too different in ways that just can't be captured in a magazine poll.

Think about it. Why would you trust these people. I am a bowdoin student, and most students are programmed to say that their school is great. So many people on this forum are going to give you "good" advice, which succinctly says come to Bowdoin. I think that johnwesley is right. They are are really similiar colleges. Be careful. These schools are know for their cliquey high drama. Keeping it real...

For science Wes is best-- and I didn't apply there so there is no bias here. But there is no contest, I don't think. Wesleyan is known for their science programs and have had a national reputaion in this area for many years. However, you have to like the school and think you would feel comfortable there. Otherwise you won't be happy.

Thanks for the advice everyone
hellojane-
Of course people give biased opinions and advice, I realize that. But, it doesn't mean people don't bring up valid and interesting points. Even if I don't always agree with someone, it's interesting to hear their perspective. And why is it that you seem so negative towards Bowdoin?

hellojane noone takes anything said on this forum seriously. I could be a terroist from the middle east for all anyone knows. jonwesley is right, i was just saying...in a way rankings really don't matter and are corrupt and everything. but then again, after you compare everything, there is so much to consider. clearly noone should apply to a school BECAUSE of rank. but ranks are more important than people think they are. read the bowdoin article "ranks are a reality". don't worry..i used to think ranks are corrupt and dumb too.

What are you trying to say "no one takes anything that I said on the forum seriously" because the grammar did not come out properly. I am not sorry for busting current students bubbles. I am right about giving my experience. Maybe I do sound pessimistic, but people are making decisions partly based on these forums. They deserve PERSPECTIVES. Just because Bowdoin acknowledges that these rankings matter. Its affects how many applicants who apply here. When bowdoin can boast that it accepted 18.5% of its applicants, it makes the college look good. Schools are out to maximize their interests [financial].
