Prospective Freshman - phone call from UCSB

Did anyone else receive a phone call from UCSB? They called last week and caller ID said “Univ Admissions.” They said that they wanted to ask my HS senior (who wasn’t home) some questions. They called again this week and the caller ID said, “Educ Planning.” They asked if my student was planning on applying to UCSB and, if so, approximately when in November the application would be submitted. They confirmed contact info (probably in their system from testing) and asked if we wanted information about scholarships and financial aid.

Just curious if this is pretty routine or what they are looking for.

We get phone calls from “Univ Admissions” also. I don’t answer because I suspect it is a scam. I googled “phone call from ‘Univ Admissions’, scam?” and found comments from many other people who also believe this is some sort of telemarketing or phishing scam. I do answer the phone if the caller ID has the actual name of the university my son goes to, but only if I feel like making a donation, which is always what it is about except for the one call around February or March of his senior year which informed him he had been admitted.

Thanks, I’ll pay closer attention in the future.
