Majority of D3’s aid is Grant which is subject to change when D2 graduates next year, so only one in college then so I need to find out how much grant I should expect to go away next year…I guess I’m getting in a very long line for answers!
To follow up on one of my previous posts, the only reason I don’t have to pay an enrollment deposit is because they waived the fee for me. If any of the rest of you think you may have met their income guidelines (or whatever), check your thingy and it will be pretty clear whether or not they waived it.
@TiredQuibbler was your financial aid package large? how much are you contributing, if you don’t mind sharing that info.
@qvpo87 I don’t mind sharing. After it is all said and done, I will be expected to pay a little over $4K from pocket and take out a loan for $5K.
@jerseygirl14 I sent you a PM…
I don’t think Smith is being intentional unresponsive. They are simply dealing with hundreds of applications, loads of questions, and lots of requests for reconsideration etc. That said, unless something major was left out of your application, they are unlikely to make a major revision to your award. Sad, but true.
Intentionally unresponsive? I don’t think you were responding to me because I’m not waiting for reconsideration, we haven’t received our first package yet. I just this minute received a reply to my email of April 1st…yes 8 days later. I consider that unacceptable. Not to mention that their only response was that they are very busy and the financial package might (yes, might) be available to us before the two day admitted students event next Thursday and Friday. Really? So they had no idea how busy they would be? No historical data to rely on?
We got crickets… still waiting on first package too…
I have friends at Smith who are theater majors and love the Smith theater program. They say that it prepares them for the professional ‘theater’ world while also allowing them to express and stretch their creativity.
The admissions office here at Smith apologies for their delayed responses to all of your questions. Smith received a record number of applicants this year, which was very exciting! The admissions office was not anticipating the number of applicants, but they are now almost all caught up on responses. Please contact them if you have any other questions or concerns.
I’m sorry if my last post here sounded like I was speaking for the admissions office. I just know that, as a student here at Smith, we are all very excited that Smith received the number of applicants that it did this year! I feel as though Smith has a very receptive financial aid office so if any of you have any questions or concerns about the financial aid you received, you can email them directly. The link to the ‘Contact Us’ page for Smith’s financial office is this: http://www.smith.edu/sfs/contact.php.
AZ, the admission or the FA office apologizes for the delayed responses?
Hi CrewDad, I was not actually speaking on behalf of either of those offices - just conjecturing. Apologies for any confusion!
“I feel as though Smith has a very receptive financial aid office”
Definitely not in my experience! Took me multiple phone calls for them to actually open and read my emails.
That’s so strange. They always answer my phone calls and respond promptly to my emails.
You guys, Smith Financial Aid finally sent our financial aid package tonight, right in time for National Decision Day! I had given up.
@redpoodles how was ur package. good I hope. esp after the wait. i have a friend who was an early write whose dream is to go to smith and she got nothing. i was so sad for her.
@rach131, my D waited far too long and had to jump through hoops to get her package, which in the end “disqualified” Smith from the running as well It is sad to see kids not get in to their dream school. I can’t say Smith was D’s dream school but there were two others that she was rejected from that would have made her jump with joy! In the end I’m glad she was outright rejected rather than them coming back unaffordable.
@rach131 I think Smith’s offer was ok. The Smith grant at 29,500K was $500 less than Mount Holyoke (20K Leadership Scholarship and 10K grant) but they gave her a small loan and work study as well to bring it close. Of course, Smith is $4K more expensive to begin with… and since MoHo could promise 4 years of scholarship it edged out Smith. Neither of them could beat Wellesley’s offer, however, which came with the acceptance letter! Wellesley it is!
Adding salt to the wound, Smith just sent D a letter asking if she’d consider doing a “visiting year” at Smith and assured her that if she still chose her other school (and they wanted that information as well) she could easily transfer to them at any time. Really? She was just getting over the fact that it was unaffordable and they send this?
