@YoonMiRae Okay, umm. Login to your UW homepage, go to your UW application. If it says something like, “Congrats, you have been accepted” or something like this, then don’t worry, it’ll be updated. Don’t worry, it might be a technical fault, if you have received the letter of admission, then Awesome! You are good to go! They’ll notify you with some more details about your next steps, so, not to Worry!
@forzajuve That is what confuses me. I’ve already logged on and it does not say “Congrats, you have been accepted” either
Umm. It’s alright. Wait for a couple of day @YoonMiRae, It’ll be fixed
How does applying for housing work?
@goblazers Alright, so this is a really common question, so I’ll just post it here so that everyone can see and reply to it accordingly.
So, the priority housing application, for you guys, starts in beginning May and ends two weeks after that. So, I would suggest start checking dorms online(like virtual tours) in advance. Priority application means that you would definitely get a house on campus, but it need not be of your choice.
Talking about the application, you also need to submit a $500 deposit to the HFS(Housing and food services) which you’ll get back once you intend to leave on-campus housing.
In the application, there will be a page where you can rank your dorm choices. You’ll be also given a choice if you want to live in a community dorm(like Engineering community, Business community),btw, I live in an Engineering community floor. Then comes the roommate choosing page. If you have found a roommate on FB’s roommate finder app(if you haven’t, then it’s really helpful and I would suggest checking it out), then you can put in your (to-be) roommate’s student ID number. To live on-campus, you are REQUIRED to have a dining plan. You can use that to get food on-campus. Dining plans range from($819-$2000). You can put in the dining plan of your choice and move ahead to a number of agreements you are required to sign.
Also, talking about agreements, there are two kinds of housing agreements. 9-month agreement and 12-month agreement. All the traditional dorm styled housing is 9-month agreement. This means that these dorms will only operate during school hours. They are closed during the Winter break so you can’t stay there during the break. But, in spring break they are open. The other is 12-month agreement. Most of the apartment styled housing is 12 month housing. It means that you can leave and stay whenever you want. They don’t care.
Also, please Like this post guys so that people visiting this thread will be able to view it more easily.
@forzajuve Housing questions: Are you an Engineering major, and if so, which focus? And do you recommend the engineering community floor for engineering majors or do you just prefer because it is quiet? Does UW have good social interaction for OOS students or do students tend to segregate into familiar groups from their high schools.
@Madison07 I am going to apply for CSE and EE this fall , currently i’m a pre-engineering student.
Engineering commununity floor does not mean that it is quiet. I find my floor really social as compared to other floors. Living in an engineering community means that all of the residents on your floor would be in a pre-engineering major status. They are intented to major in an engineering field, in simple language. So, the best part is that I find a lot of commonalities, and helps me find topics to talk, and it’s really easy for me to be social. Mostly people on my floor have their doors open and people generally walk into each other’s rooms and hang out.
UW is really good in social interactions, not only for OOS, but for everyone else. There are so many activities, clubs, leadership positions to take part in here.
I am also a member of the Hall Council of my Residence Hall, I plan events on campus. This makes it really easy for me to interact with others, hang out and make friends. Freshman year is the best time to make friends at UW!
@forzajuve Hey mate, If quite a few people in my area and school got acceptance letters yesterday but I didn’t is that a bad sign? It’s kind of what bothered me yesterday and I’m looking for a glimmer of hope since my transcript won’t load either, are these bad signs or should I still have wait on it? Sorry to bother you with these types of questions lol
@Wusawu umm, I can’t say about this because I am not in admissions.
@forzajuve Oh my apologies I was just hoping you could speculate or if you could relate in any manner :PPP because if I recall you said the letter came 5 days after they were sent out for yourself
@forzajuve hi! Do you think that it’s worth the OOS tuition to come to UW for biology (premed)? I got accepted as pre-science,so I’m not exactly sure. Thanks!
Are there any clubs for avant-garde art/music/film/etc? Also, is there a club for socialism?
Do a lot of people play Smash Bros Melee at UW?
Was wondering if there were any suite style dorms. Looking to dorm with a few friends, and would rather share one bathroom between the 5 or so of us than share a community bathroom. And if there are any suite style dorms, what building are they in?
McMahon on North and Mercer on West are both suite-style dorms with a group of 4-8 residents (possibly more in the former) sharing a living room and bathroom. Mercer residents also get a kitchen. And if by suite you mean any room with a bathroom attached, then all West campus dorms will fit your criteria.
I know the chance of getting a roommate you request is pretty high–not so sure about setting up an entire suite/cluster. I’m sure it’s worth a try, though.
Congratulations to those who have heard back!
Oh, I was under the impression that you’d be able to request roommates. I know that at Western you’re able to, so figured that it was a normal thing to be able to request friends to dorm with. So are roommates chosen based on similar interests and similar styles of living?
You can definitely request a roommate! I’m just not sure if multiple sets of roommates can request a specific suite to stay in (returning residents can, however). And yes, the housing questionnaire is supposed to match up people with comparable living styles, so if you have a specific person you want to dorm with in mind, make sure you both put down the same answers for sleep schedule, neatness, etc.
Hi! I was just wondering how student life is because I have heard that its very hard to meet people and make a solid friend group unless you go greek.
I got accepted… but my financial aid stuff on myuw login is still blank, theres no indication of an award… im confused is that normal?
@MikasaTuCasa pre-med at UW is a well renowned major here! It’s competitive too! UW Medicine is all across the city! Like before, I’m in an engineering field, so I can’t really help you with it. But if you pm me, I can give you the contact details of a person I know who is doing pre-med.
@nattycat66 Please read the answers I posted to similar questions.
Social life here at UW is not only Greek life. to be a part of social life, it’s best to join clubs and organizations. There are residence hall councils, sports, music and what not! Even some classes are really social! If you are social enough, then I don’t really think that it’d be really hard for you to find social life at UW.
