Prospective students! Ask questions here!

@sukeeni1997‌ I’m sorry, I’m not sure with that, you might wanna email the UW admissions or the IT dept.

@shumba‌ there are loads of clubs. On the first week of classes, the Red Square will be full of stalls and banners of the clubs and organizations helping you find where you fit the best!

@forzajuve thanks a lot!

I was wondering if it is worth paying the OOS for engineering. I don’t know for sure if I got accepted or not but my transcript loads so I’m going off of that for now. I’m planning on doing biomedical engineering. Also on average what percentage of OOS get merit based scholarships?

@Coriander23‌

  1. Do the huge class sizes for lecture halls scare you?
  2. Do you feel like you can get lost and fall behind in these large classes?

I haven’t been accepted yet (I probably won’t be accepted for my major of choice :frowning: ) , but do you remember how UW did their admissions process when you first applied? Did they submit the decision letters in batches or any special way?

@sRina97‌ bioE at UW is super competitive to get into. I’m not really sure about the percentage, but if you do really well in the classes and pre-reqs, you would be strong applicant for that!

Hi! I have a question for current huskies. In past years, if you’re unofficial transcript loaded did that mean you’re in for sure?? I want to get excited, but I just want to be 100 % positive that i’m in

@forzajuve thanks for replying!!

Hi everyone, I just got into UW today! As a prospective economics major, the MyUW website says that I am a “pre-social science” major. Does that mean I’m admitted into the major, or do I have to apply to the major after my freshman/sophomore year?

@monkeyblue97‌ from what I’ve heard from everybody, it definitely means you’re in! Congratulations!!

@EmpyreanDweller‌ it can mean two things. Either you have not been admitted into the major(that means you have to apply after you freshman year or whenever) or it could mean that you haven’t been admitted to the major yet. Some departments(like CS and EE) release direct admit decisions until April. So, If you are not sure, you can email the Foster business school’s admissions department/advising about this!

Guys, one more thing! A pre-science/engineering/social-science major in your application DOES NOT mean that when you go to UW, you cannot switch from one pre-major to another(like pre-science to pre-engineering). This will be required for you when you wish to register for classes. Suppose you want to register for an EE Seminar, but you are in a pre-science major. The UW registration system won’t let you register because for the EE seminar you need to be either a pre-engineering major or any other engineering field. So you need to contact your advisor if you want to switch from pre-science to pre-(whatever). You can do this as many times as you like!

Also, many of you who are intended to go to UW, would be asking questions about class registration system. It’s a bit overwhelming at first, but you’ll get through the process once you are thorough with what steps you are required to follow! If you guys have any questions regarding this, please let me know!

EmpyreanDweller, the Department of Economics is in the College of Arts and Sciences. I do not believe it has a direct admit program. http://econ.washington.edu/

Since UW goes by the quarter system is it harder in terms of managing your classes? i heard a lot of things about how the quarter system is too fast paced so I’m kind of nervous about that.

Once you guys are able to respond to your offer of admission (either via MyUW or mail), I’d make sure to sign up for the earliest A&O possible. As incoming freshmen, you’ll be among the very last groups to register, and many classes will fill up if you wait until August for orientation.

The Fall 2015 time schedule should be coming out in the next few weeks and I would * highly * recommend browsing through it at least a couple times to get an idea of what classes you want to take. There are so many different avenues to explore here, and while that’s awesome, it can also get a little overwhelming if you don’t plan for it beforehand.

@forzajuve Thanks for the info. My daughter got her acceptance today with purple & gold aid, so we will likely plan a visit soon. We appreciate the positive feedback!

@sRina97‌ I think, once you start taking classes, you won’t feel like it’s too fast paced. The best part of the quarter system is that you can take more interesting classes, and do more with your major(like tons of research) than what you could do in a semester system.

@forzajuve thanks for the info!!

What is the whole roommate situation like? I know now that freshman will have to use the roommate finder app on Facebook. Does the UW match up people pretty well in terms of interests, social likeness, sleep habits, etc? I have a friend that goes there and she says getting a random roommate is best because you can switch and not feel guilty, but I think I’ll want to actually talk to some people first. Is the whole process awkward or fun?

If your unofficial transcript lists “Computer Science” as your major, is that an indication of direct admit?

Do you know what it’s like being in the Honors program? What are the pros/cons? How much more difficult is it? Is it worth applying to at the end of freshman year if I did not apply during my initial application?
