UW transfer

Hi there, recently I am worried about my application because my mother is keeping asking "how's application going".
Some facts about me:

Intended major: Computer Engineering
Second choice: Electrical Engineering
1.GPA as a whole: 3.91

2.Prerequisite GPA: 3.85 (have not taken two CS classes yet, but have taken some higher level classes which are not required for application but for graduation, you guys know what i am saying, you guys are pros)

3.Race: Asian (some people say Asian is supposed to have higher grades, uh, so sad)

4.I do have volunteering experiences, not amazing though.

Still working on my personal statement and still have no clue. But I will definitely work my butt off on it.

Basically above is my information. I wonder on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 refers to" hey bro, stop even think about it" 10 refers to" hey man, if you cannot get in, nobody will" What point you guys will give me? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Last not not least, wish all of you best luck on your admission.

So far you are looking pretty good. I could help you more if you give a breakdown of all your prerequisite classes and scores.

I wouldn’t say you’re in for sure, UW Comp Sci is extremely competitive. But you look like you’re in with a good chance. So maybe a 7/10? Again, a breakdown of your scores would be helpful. It matters how well you did in the CSE courses vs the Math courses, for instance.

Hi Candela2, first of all, I have to say thank you for your help. My first math class which is equivalent to UW 124 is B-, yes I really messed up my first quarter. I got A- on english class which is equvalent to UW english131 and I got A on my technical writing. I got straight A on my science classes. Yes, i really worked my butt off those classes. I have not done any CS class yet and I will take them in the winter quarter. I don’t think I am talented on computer and I was told that GPA for CS is the most important criteria in admission consideration. I also checked the worksheet provided by CE department, only 30 applicants were admitted from Washington cc in fall 2012 (not sure about the date). So i am a little bit panic. To me EE is safer but I have more interests in CE. Once again, thank you for your help.

Yes, that is correct, your intro CSE grades are the most important factor in your admission. So the good news is, you are not out of the game. But if I am correct in assuming that that Math grade of B- is equivalent to a GPA between 2.8 and 2.5 (which it is according to the chart on this UW page: [UW Grading System](University of Washington Office of the Registrar)), that is not good at all.

With that said, you still have a shot at CSE if you get 3.8+ on both UW CSE courses. It would be better if you got 3.9s or 4.0s.

I don’t know much about the EE program (I know about the CSE program because someone I know well applied for it), so unfortunately I can’t help you there.

Good luck!

Once again, thank you Candela2.
