@hungryapple eh, it may just be that they havent updated yours yet, not sure. Mine says business administration but I want to do computer science D:
@hungryapple UW is awesome in that they don’t restrict you to a major at anytime in your college career. Even if you are admitted into a degree program you can say nahhhhh and go do something else. In other words, you can do whatever you like!
@JunSin LOL! Then why didn’t you apply CS in the first place? Anyway if you’re able to be DA-ed for foster I think you’re more than capable to be doing a double degree or transferring to CS. You shouldn’t worry at all.
@Loganmr97 Really? That’d be great! That means I can still figure around on what major I want to pursue
Whens a good time to start renting houses? I heard it is hard to find a place if you wait too long.
@YoonMiRae hey. For renting houses, I would suggest you coming to the U-district/Roosevelt area around early-july. That’s time when places start getting filled up…
It’s actually not that hard to find houses near campus. Lots and lots of apartments get vacant every summer because that’s the time students graduate and check out of their houses.
First off, thank you for creating this thread it is very helpful! Also, do you know when they send out welcome packets? A bunch of my friends have gotten theirs but mine hasn’t come yet. But I received my admission letter and DA to Business, should I contact the admissions office or just wait it out?
Do any of you know the advantages of being in the honors program at the Foster School of Business?
@soundersgirl13 I think you should wait for it for a week or so. The University sends out thousands of welcome packets. So, there is a chance that your packet is in the process and will be shipped soon!
So I was admitted to the school as well as the honors program. I applied for direct admission to the computer science school; however, I have not received a clear indication on whether I was granted direct admission. On my welcome packet, it states that my major is pre-physical science. I have several questions.
- Does this mean I was rejected/accepted from direct admission?
- Is this not a clear indicator of direct admission?
- Has anyone else already been accepted/reject to direct admission to the computer science department (specifically computer science) and if so how were you notified and when?
Congrats to all of those who were admitted! Hope someone can help me with my questions.
@codetank Emails were sent out last week for CSE DA. If a person was DA’d then their major usually was listed as computer science instead of pre-science/pre-physical science/etc.
@iloveeescargot Do you know if there is any way to appeal their decision?
@codetank I’m not sure, you could try emailing to ask. I know that they already admit more DAs than they actually expect to enroll (admit ~120 and expect a yield of around 30-40), so it might be a little difficult. You can always apply via regular admission, though.
@ilovescargot The reason I was so surprised that I wasn’t directly admitted was because I already/will at the end of my senior year satisfy most of the requirements for regular admission due to my AP credits.
They do not expect you to have any prior knowledge or anything at all. So basically they just want people with the best scores @codetank
@forzajuve Is it common for students to double major?
Also, would you say that UW is a school most suitable for incoming freshmen who already have a pretty clear idea of what career field they want to enter?
I’m worried that I will spend my freshman and sophomore years working vigorously to simply to get into my intended major (psychology), that, by the time my junior year rolls around, I’ll realize that I never really got to explore other career interests of mine.
What are you thoughts on this?
@lex10717 first of all, UW is a school where you can double major pretty smoothly. One of my friends is doing a physics and CS double major and he realized that in his sophomore year.
It is not like a thing where you need to be SURE about what you need to do in future in college. More than 50% of students change majors. That’s the best part of being in the quarter system at UW. You get to take tons of more classes to explore than that of semester system.
Hope that makes sense!
@forzajuve I’m a prospective student at UDub and before I make a decision, I had some queries. I got through Pre-engineering and my intended major is Computer Engineering. However, for getting through my desired major, I have seen that a GPA of at least 3.8/4 needs to be acheived just to get a CHANCE to get through the department (due to competition) and even if I was to get a 3.8-4.00/4.00 GPA, due to limited seats, I may not get my desired major. So what to do if my GPA is good but seat isn’t available (and I don’t want to change my major, even to CS or Electrical Engineering). And just out of curiosity what is the number of seats available for computer engineering and/or computer science. And once I get through CmpE. as my major, what is the GPA i need to maintain ? and if i get lower than that, will I get kicked out of CmpE.
That does make sense–thank you for the quick response! @forzajuve
@ComMITment - If there is a certain subject you know you want to major in and you aren’t a direct admit, I would at least consider backup majors because UW’s engineering department is really competitive. Everyone will be looking to get that 3.8 or above, and like you said, there aren’t enough seats for the number of interested applicants.
Are there any schools you got into as a Computer Engineering student?
is it possible to transfer after just 1 year of CC?
