Prospective students! Ask questions here!

@GabiWasabi‌ I believe this is the first year that UW is trying out the app feature. Is there a link to that, btw? Us older students don’t even know what it looks like.

@student197‌ Possibly. But from what I’ve heard, CS don’t announce anything till April. I would ask the CS advisors, just to be sure.
As for Honors, I can’t really speak on the subject since I’ve never been in Honors. But Shannon on the UW Guide team is in Honors; she’s more than willing to answer any questions you may have about it! Here’s her email: sefoss@uw.edu

Oh I’m so upset, I’m classified as a non-resident but I am a resident. What??? I guess I’m going to be spending some time on the phone trying to clear that up, too bad it’s too late to correct for admissions. Hoping my 1,000 comm service hours with special needs kids and 31 ACT, 2060 SAT and 3.85 UW (4.24weighted) GPA is good enough for admissions. Sigh. Maybe I’ll still get that Gold Envelope…but it’s not as likely if I’m non-resident classified. Poo.

@madhusky2019‌ OMG! I would be upset too. Have you called admissions? Regardless, you’re a stellar candidate & should get in for sure!!!

Looking at a few different reviews and websites, I’ve heard that UW is mostly a commuter school since a good chunk of the student body lives in-state. First of all, is this true? And if it is, do students from OOS tend to feel lonely on weekends or bored because no one is there? UW is one of my top choices, but I’m worried that as an OOS student, I will feel lonely and left out among all the in-staters.

@girlfromworld1‌ My mom attended the UW. It is a vibrant, social campus with people from all over the world. There are a lot of locals that commute, but there are tons of people who live on campus … in the Greek system & dorms. Are you planning to live on campus? If so, you should be just fine!

I share Brianna3’s impression of the campus. I’m sure there are many Seattle area students who commute from home (it saves them about $10K per year). Even so, the housing website says that 7,280 students live in campus housing (6,429 in residence halls, 851 in UW apartments – not including those who live in the Greek houses north of campus), and over 70% of freshmen live on campus. About 1/3 of the students are OOS and international, so they all live on and around campus. Washington is a fairly large state, and any in-state students from outside of the greater Seattle area would live on and around campus as well. There will be plenty of people to meet and make friends with and lots of things to do together on campus and in the Seattle area – as long as you have taken care of all your required studies first, of course!

I was wondering how the job prospects are for engineering undergrads. I heard that there are not that many companies (other than the bigs ones like Amazon and Microsoft) that hire undergrads. I’m planning on majoring in biomedical engineering (still not 100% sure about that yet) and I am and OOS student from nor cal so I want to see if it is really worth paying the extra OOS tuition money to go to UW.

@sRina97‌ there are numerous job opportunities for everyone. Uw has a building JUST for careers and helping you prepare for interviews and what not. Seattle is one of the greatest cities to find a job and has the highest job growth rate.

When does financial aid info usually come? Does it come with the large packet or does it not come for awhile?

My mom did and they replied nicely saying I was evaluated as a resident and that my decision is in the mail. They said I needed to update my info with the Residency Office to make sure what they have is accurate. Sounds promising!! Why would they tell me to update my status with the Residency Office if I was rejected?

My school college counselor also said it was a fixable issue, she knows the Director of Admissions. She’s confident I will be accepted. Still…until I get that BIG ENVELOPE…I won’t breath too easy!!

@madhusky2019 If you guys encounter any problem with acceptance letter, then you should email them ASAP!

@sRina97 there are so many job opportunities for UW graduates, not only for CS majors but also for the most types of Engineering. The BIO E class size is less than 150 students. So companies know how prestigious the major is at the University.

@forzajuve I will! We had a good discussion with a super nice lady at the office of admissions today, she gave us her name, email and direct number if we experience future issues. There is a scholarship (private funded) that I am a strong candidate for, but I need to be consideres a resident AND accepted before I can fully sibmit for it! HAHA

Any physics majors want to chime in on their experience?

@forzajuve‌ what’s the financial aid package like? Does the university give a lot?

@forzajuve‌ Hey, I would like to find out how declaring a major actually works. I applied for business admin as my preferred major but I don’t think i managed to enter as a direct admit. Assuming I didn’t, since i’m now placed under Arts and Science, can i still complete the pre-reqs for say electrical engineering and try to get in? or are the majors i want to declare in the future limited to only business, and arts and sciences because of the college ive been assigned to now? Thanks a bunch!

@hungryapple What does it say on your unofficial transcrip?

College : Arts and Sciences
Major: Pre-A&S

I’m assuming i didn’t get DA coz i’ve seen other threads ppl have theirs updated alr.
