How good is HFS at matching compatible roommates? I’m wondering how hard I should try on FaceBook to find someone.
@futurepanic
It will match based on the criteria you put on the application (i.e. cleanliness, sleeping schedules, room preferences)
@forzajuve In the financial aid status 2015 - 2016 Resources update page it says:
“These are the reported or calculated resources that the Office of Student Financial Aid has used to determine your eligibility for aid. If you see “Expected Student Contribution” or “Expected Parent Contribution”, these are figures calculated using information from a FAFSA you filed. If you have been awarded scholarships, loans, or other educational aid that does not appear in the list below or is listed incorrectly, fill in the “Additional Resources Information” below to tell us of the update. Changes in your resources may require us to revise your aid award.”
I just received notification that I qualified for a scholarship however I am supposed to confirm it in August as stated on the website when it says:
“We will email you in August to confirm that your funding will be sent, the name of your college, and the amount you’ll be awarded.”
Does this mean I should wait until then to add in the scholarship to my resources? This is the WA State Opportunity Scholarship if that helps answer the question. Thank you!
@YoonMiRae Yes! You have to wait till August! I would still cross check with them just to make sure. Just email and ask them, it might help you
@UWfreshman123 no its not. You can complete the pre-requisites for the Chem classes!
My daughter doesn’t deal well with noise and people - very shy and sensitive. She would be eaten alive in a regular dorm. She really needs Hansee’s 24/7 quiet hours - and a single room - to function. What are the chances she gets such a room? She’s a first year student, but was accepted as a sophomore (for credits).
@LadyArwyn not many people apply to Hansee Hall. There is a good chance that your daughter might get it. I mean, there is no priority given if you are a sophomore by credits. We as Returning Residents get some priority over others, but yeah, if she applied before the deadline, then she’s good to go. And Trust me, more than 50% students start room swapping once the decisions come out. Mostly people want to swap to West Campus Dorms. So, even though if she couldn’t get Hansee for some reason, then she can always room swap
I’m an international student and I’d like to know if you guys would recommend Stevens Court for freshmen.
Currently, I’m leaning towards Stevens Court because i) I like cooking ii) The 4 bedroom floor plans seems spacious and iii) It’s cheaper than getting a single in any of the others dorms
But the main thing that worries me is social life. Although I want to be studying and not going to parties all the time, I love meeting people, socializing and going for events. Is that hard to do at Stevens Court?
Also, I’d be doing engineering if that really matters
Thanks!
@workingspade hey, That is true. Stevens Court is not social, from my opinion. I would recommend you taking it in sophomore year(if you want, otherwise off campus housing). I’m saying this because you are an international freshman and the last thing you want is to be alone in your room. That’s why Dorms are best for freshmen. I loved dorms, and I too am an international student. You can do a lot more things in dorms than that in apartments(like hall council). If you really like cooking, then dorms do have kitchens. But, at the same point it would be a shared one. And you can always go to the quiet rooms in the libraries.
I would recommend you to go for dorms.
It’s just my opinion and advice, it’s up to you if you want to take it. Hope it helps
Guys, keep asking me questions! You can. Always look at this thread, it might have the answers to your questions already!
All the best Huskies!
How can j change my major from Economics to Biology? I’m an incoming freshman
*I
@monkmonk are you a direct admit or is it your intended major?
@forzajuve I’m an intended major, as it says “Pre-Social Science” on my unofficial transcript. I went onto my UWNet and listed Biology as my major, but I don’t know how to officially switch to it.
When do housing assignments begin to trickle down to students?
I’m a prospective transfer student from Bellevue College and I probably have way too many questions, so I apologize in advance >.<.
My brother goes to WWU and he’s noticed that most people up there usually find non resident-hall housing their junior and senior years.
Is this the case for UW? Are there good options off campus that are still comparable to residence halls? (The ones on the housing page were far more than the residence halls). What are the savvy options for housing, and which would be better for a transfer student going into junior year?
If the residents-halls are the best option, what is the impact of someone choosing the different dorms, like the western campus dorms? Are triples in high demand due to cost saving, or are they too hard to live in, and should be avoided? Which dorms are convenient and which are a pain? Do any dorms on the same price point happen to have superior facilities? How late can you stay up and maintain an inside voice without pissing off the neighbors ( think online gamer without yelling and smashing keyboards? Do any dorms have reputations for anything, parties, quiet, medium, etc. Ex: If you want X, you should shoot for Y dorm, where X could be Gaming, for one thing. I want the full scoop to end all scoops. XD
And the sad part is, tomorrow I’m sure I’ll ask the things I’ve forgotten to ask now! Thanks so very much to anyone who would take up the task of answering, I know it’s a lot! It’s fueled by my anxiety from the horrifically long wait for transfer admission, so I blame UW!
Can anyone help? XD I still have my questions!
@EchosOki all answers are in the thread. Look at pages 2-3.
Hello,
I’m a freshmen student and I was wondering which dining account would fit me the best? Knowing that I’m a pretty active guy (workout 5/6 times a week) and eat 4/5 times per day.
Thanks for the help.
Hello I am going to be a high school senior this fall and will probably apply to the UW. Does anyone know how difficult it is to be accepted to their bioengineering, chemical engineering, and materials science and engineering programs? I am from a relatively large school in the Bay Area. Thank you!
