How much is parking for students quarterly?
Question about sorority life: if I understand correctly, if I go through rush I live in the house freshmen year? What is the average number of years that girls live in the house? I know at ucsb you only really will have one year in the house (usually sophomore year, unless you’re the president). I’d love to live in a house as long as possible if I’m in greek life.
@YoonMiRae for parking - http://www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/files/Rates_List_public_2013_14_aug.pdf
Hope this helps!
I was reading through college confidential and came upon this topic:
When one of the user says: “Any money in your bank account that was financial aid money is not reported on the FAFSA for upcoming years.”
Does he mean that if for say my bank account is made up of 1000 dollars in financial aid leftover from the previous year and 200 of my own money that I only report the 200 dollars the next year?
I’ve been admitted as a pre physical sciences student. I really want to attend UW, but I’m very concerned about the risk of not being admitted by the CSE department. It seems like it’s very competitive. Does the fact that I put CS as my intended major on my application hold any weight in the CS department application process? Did putting CS as my major on my UW application make it harder to get in to UW (as is the case with most UC), or is the intended major more or less meaningless?
The only other school I am considering is Penn State for Computer Engineering. I have also been wait listed at Uc Irvine for CSE.
Any advice as to what I should do between UW and Penn State and if the risk is worth it?
@irvhs94538 hey. It’s not true. To apply for CS, you first need to be admitted to the UW. So, it doesn’t matter if you have mentioned intended major as CS in the application. These are two different things! hope this helps!
I got accepted to UW last month but my second semester grades aren’t too promising. My first semester grades were A, A, A, A, B, B and now they might be A, A, A, A, C, C. Do you think UW will take note and rescind my application? what are the chances that my admission might be revoked (*knock on wood) :((
I heard that CSE is very competitive which brings me to my main question. Can you apply to two different majors at the same time? Like for example applying to ACMS/Informatics and CSE at the same time in case you get denied.
Also how difficult is it to get into the ACMS and Informatics departments? Is the job market for both good or bad? Thank you for your help!
@YoonMiRae Yes you can apply to as many as you want, provided you complete all the pre-requisites. I am a current freshman who is going to apply to 7 back up majors. More options the better
Dear forzajuve,
I am admitted into chemical engineering at UW and still unsure about attending - I have to decide this week!
How big have your classes been? Is it hard to access professors? Are there a lot of professors with accents who are difficult to understand?
What is the job placement? How many and how big are the career fairs? Are there grad school fairs? I cannot find information online about where graduates are working or going to grad school. Where can I get the salaries, job placement, grad school information?
Do most students have summer internships, jobs, or research? Do you know anyone who did not have a job by the time they graduated? If so, why?
I know you are not a chemical engineering major, but I would appreciate answers to any of these questions if possible. Maybe you know some chemical engineering majors and how they are doing. I care the most about helpfulness of professors and advisors, and job placement.
Thank you!!!
Hi, does anyone know how competitive any of the North Campus dorms are? I really want to live in Haggett, and I’m wondering if my chances are good of being approved if I apply for housing as soon as it becomes available. I found a roommate so we would both be applying together for a room.
Sorry for responding to your questions so late. Had a midterm week, which kept me extremely busy.
@GuitarHusky As McCarty is no longer available after this quarter, it’s going to be really competitive to get into North Campus dorms, because they are cheap and worth the money. If you have a roommate, then you have a better chance of getting in as compared to others who don’t. I’d say keep your options open, if you guys want Haggett for sure, put it multiple times in your choices in the application. That’s how I got McCarty.
Also make sure you guys fill in the exact same information in the roommate and room preferences page in the application!
@ThankYouCC it actually depends.
Some classes, for example CSE 142/143 and Chem 142 etc, have A lot of students, like close to 500. At the same time, classes like Calc and other major classes have like close to 100 students.
It’s actually not hard to access the professors. They have regular office hours and also active in discussion boards and emails.
For job placements, you should actually look for careers on the Chem-E website. You can get most of the answers from there!
@forzajuve how popular is each of the dorms? would it be easy to get a triple on west campus or are those in high demand?
Does department of Chemical Engineering consider the AP score credits in place of those specific courses given on their site which are required as my prerequisites? Or Do I need to redo those prereq courses even though I would have already earned those specific course credits through APs?
@UWfreshman123 You don’t need to complete those pre-reqs in which you have got an AP credit
@YoonMiRae For 2015/16- North Campus Dorms available- Haggett, McMahon and hansee
West Campus-Terry, Maple, Lander, Alder, Poplar, Elm…
As of now, Haggett and McMahon are in huge demand for North campus dorms as they are the cheapest available.
For West campus, it’s pretty much similar. But, people generally prefer to live in Lander because it’s got the Local Point(the main dining area for West Campus) or Alder(for district market and a minute walk from Lander). So those fill out quite fast.
From my experience, if you sign up for a triple, then it’s a better chance that you’ll get a room in the dorm of your choice
yay thank you!
I had another doubt,
I am a future freshman at UW who has been accepted to Pre Engineering and I would be applying to Chemical Engineering after completing my Prerequisites.
Before enrolling for my first Quarter courses, Do I need to Take the Math and Chemistry Placement tests?
I have CHEM 145, CHEM 155, CHEM 165 and the general Math Engineering courses as my prereqs.
Do I need to take the tests?
I am writing the AP Chemistry and Calculus BC.
I see that even though these placement tests are a requirement, I need not write them if I get a 2+ in Calculus and a 4+ in Chemistry Advanced Placements right?
Is it compulsary to even take the chemistry placement test?
