Prospective Transfer Student- Annenberg Communications

Hey guys!

I'm a sophomore at Occidental College, a liberal arts school about fifteen minutes away from USC. Unfortunately, they simply do not have the academic resources available in comparison to USC. I want to study communications and journalism. However, Occidental has no classes/majors in each of these departments. Additionally, there is no business school at Oxy and I hope to minor in Marketing or Sports Media.

My first semester GPA-2.5
2nd semester GPA-3.4
3rd semester GPA-3.9

This puts me around a 3.3

After retaking Econ second semester this year, my GPA will definitely hover around 3.4 and I'm hoping that my dramatic and steady GPA increase will be favorable for my chances.

I know Annenberg's acceptance rate is around 3.6

What do you think my chances are? I write for two newspaper publications on campus and I was the number one player on the golf team since my first day freshman year.

I figure coming from a competitive liberal arts college will help, but it looks like they show preference to CC students. Just looking for some advice/input. What should I select as my second major? Are there any majors more lenient than others in the College of Arts and Sciences? I'm thinking about Sociology.

Thank you very much for your help/predictions/advice. I appreciate it!

Students transfer from many private colleges. Each student is considered on his/her own merits. On CC there is a long thread on USC transfers. Read that. There are many helpful posts about the transfer admissions process.

My suggestion is to write down as your second choice major what you really wish to study.

Last year there were 9,611 applicants to transfer. The average college GPA was 3.7.

Thank you for your prompt response! Do you attend USC?

Jason,
Good luck in your college journey. I am an alumna from a Trojan family.
