The title is pretty self-explanatory. I’m thinking of applying. Please elaborate on your experience. Most importantly, how was your social life? How is the Vanderbilt community? Is it easy to meet new people? Is everyone basic and jappy (just stereotypes I’ve heard)? Or are there also cool people too? Thanks a bunch.
You definitely have to find your niche at Vandy. To be honest, I was about to transfer prior to this semester, but have ultimately reconsidered. There’s an adjustment period for sure, and you have to do some searching to find people like you. There are a lot of preppy, “basic” people, but there are some really awesome people out there, just like any other school. Are you transferring from a similarly-rigorous institution? The academics also take some getting used to, in terms of going from superior (possibly) to average (again, possibly. That depends on a lot of things I suppose).
I go to NYU right now. So it’s rigorous, but probably a bit less than Vandy. Are you a freshman, sophomore…? What made you want to transfer, why did you decide not to? My best friend goes there right now and says it’s alright. She says that she thinks she can love vandy, if she just finds the right group of people (that she thinks exists there).
^That’s something that can be said about practically any school. If there isn’t something in particular about Vanderbilt that appeals to you, it probably isn’t worth your time/effort to transfer. It mostly just sounds like you want a new environment, and there are new environments everywhere. Try to isolate and then seek out exactly what you’re looking for in a university.
