How are the people there? Are a lot of them like this anchor character? I think this is a pretty important factor in our decisions.

HA! And people at Berkeley are like pinker and grey?

Don't use users on this board as a reflection of the people at each school. Perhaps only .001% of the amount of transfer students post on this board.

yeah, come on! Berkeley isn't the intellectual palace that we are portraying! ;)

Seriously though, I've mingled with plenty of UCSD people, and I have never (ever) come across anyone remotely like anchor. That guy is in a league of his own.

While some stereotypes ARE reinforced by the UCSD student body, you will find a wide variety of characters. That should go without saying though - there are thousands upon thousands of students that attend this massive school.

I don't know what lead to your post but I transfered to UCSD last fall and have had a great experience. A lot of people on this forum want to say negative things about UCSD, but It's best to ignore them. Here are a few facts that get over looked:

1) UCSD is located in La Jolla, within walking distance of the beach. A great campus. Besides the beach it is surrounded by world class research institutions that are affiliated with UCSD (Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, The Burnham Institute). It also has 2 hospitals adjacent to the campus (Scripps Memorial & the VA hospital). It has a hospital on campus (UCSD Thornton Hospital) and another up the street (scripps green). All of these places offer employment, internships, and volunteer opportunities to students.

2) The 6 college system offers an opportunity to select the best GE courses to fit your interests. The 6 college system does not mean that you are segregated from the students in other colleges or you have to take all your classes at that college. Its good enough for Oxford and Cambridge.

3) UCSD is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 35th best national university. The 7th best public school in the nation.

4) UCSD recieves the 3rd most NIH funding for research. (1st is UCSF which doesn't have an undergraduate program and 2nd is UCLA). UCSD received $319 million in NIH funds. To put that amount in perspective #2 UCLA recieved $366 million and #4 UCD recieved $162 million. There are tons of undergraduate research opportunities at UCSD . I am doing an 8 unit research project at the medical school for the next two quarters, and they have already offered me a paid job in the summer.

5) I am a biology major, which is excellent at UCSD. In fact it is the most popular major at UCSD, 19% of students are biology majors. At UCLA biology majors make up only 5%. At UCLA the most popular major is Poly Sci (7%).

6) The Gym is awesome at UCSD. The San Diego Chargers used to train there so they invested a lot of money in it. Also, they just expanded the price center which is the center of campus.

Great school, all of the UC's are great. It would be even better if they had division I sports and a football team though.

grey & pinker = the new anchor?

lol

way to omit the smiley face. no fair.

unlike anchor, i'm just kidding when i'm blatantly pompous.

Yeah chibi, that smiley face is crucial for the appropriate understanding of grey's post. How unethical, misrepresentative and Hillary Clinton-like of you!

hey hey, don't be hating. hilldog is hot, yo.

;)

lol. watch, all this "anchor was a whackjob" talk is going to resurrect the guy back onto this board.

mark's the cooolest ROFLMMFAO!

okay, now im confused.

Huh?

10 char

Yes, everyone at UCSD is like that anchor ******bag.

lol. watch, all this "anchor was a whackjob" talk is going to resurrect the guy back onto this board.

I hear he drops in from time to time, to see what all the overachievers are up to. Most of the time he's busy working in a research lab, from what I hear.

You know what they say about people in glass houses, right suwaifo?

Wow, this anchor kid is the lonelist kid I've ever seen. I remember him talking about his "stanford professor" in another thread. I would be embarassed to be a bio major after reading that guy's posts. Good thing I changed to chemistry

Typical asian nerd, you'll fit right in at UCSD.

If I were you, I'd just be flat out embarrassed to have been born with that face.

LOLLLL That's a picture of my friend, but thanks for making that. I'm going to save it.

Figures, I guess UCSD is filled with people who self righteously search through photobuckets to give themselves a sense of purpose in life.

Lemme give you a hint: it doesn't end in .jpg

sure it is...

I hope you looked through the rest of the album. A UC transfer should be able to deduce that. Would I post a picture of myself eating a hotdog in such a provocative manner?

Even if that were my face, it wouldn't matter. I'm not looking to date a lonely internet nerd.

But I bet you got pretty excited huh?

But I understand your point though. I was acting like a ******...
Just don't get my friends involved.
