I hear La Jolla is basically the same town as Irvine. I've lived in Irvine for the past year. I hate Irvine. I would never go to UC Irvine considering how horrible Irvine is. How similar is La Jolla/UCSD compared to Irvine/UCI as far as social environment goes?

La Jolla is so much better than Irvine. There is way more to do in the San Diego area in general. If you have a car, you’ll have no problem having fun at UCSD.

i agree with evan since i’m from around there, but whats so terrible about irvine?

Irvine is just so dull, in my opinion.

Edit: The City, not the school.

what irvine have you been to?

Corona del mar is 10 mins away, the irvine spectrum is 15 mins away,

the mountains are close by, there is an movie theater across from campus. concerts at the

park.

there is alot of nature preserves around irvine…

Uh… a beach, a mall, another mall, and a movie theater?

Blacks Beach, UTC, Fashion Valley, La Jolla Village Cinemas.

yeah traffic in la jolla can get pretty bad. irvine definitely doesnt suck though

@ transferbound

Irvine is horrible…it is the most boring place imaginable. everything looks the same, no culture, basically one big shopping mall slash retirement community, everyone drives the same Benz or beemer, cops EVERYWHERE, etc

also, Irvine Spectrum is probably the one thing I hate most about irvine.

I’ve been to irvine and I hate it there also. My brother and my dad went there and they reccommend that I don’t go there. Anyways I am choosing between UCD and UCSD and so far it is a stalemate between the two colleges. I like the UCD campus a lot more but I like the weather and UCSD and the fact that I can continue surfing. kafndsakj.fnaksjdnfas.kdfnaks.dnfk. any thoughts? can someone just pick for me?

La Jolla is a richer Irvine.

Both are dull, but it varies on what you make of your life at the school

seriously? CdM is ok, but gets old quick, most people who live in Irvine get tired of the spectrum after 10 visits, mountains? you mean hills, right? the movie theater across campus only shows indie movies (there’s the district now though… gets old quick as well) concerts are for UCI only i believe? and who has performed?

there’s the verizon amphitheater, but choice acts come what? 5 times a year at most?

nature preserves. i don’t even have to answer that.

you go to school there. i’ve lived here for more than 10 years.

everything doesn’t look the same, the culture is korean. seeing as how there isn’t a shopping mall -in- irvine, i wouldn’t call it a shopping mall. uhh retirement community? that’s why there are four high schools…?

i drive a honda. and it’s not the same benz. everyone drives a 328i though! you see the occasional lambo, lotus, or bentley. hell, one house has two lambos in the garage. there are range rovers, fj cruisers… camries…

cops aren’t everywhere, they’re just in their usual hiding spots with their radar guns. that, or if there’s a crime, there will be 4 cars interrogating two dudes on the curb. they do come out at the end of the month though for ticket quota

well the difference between the surrounding area of UCD and UCSD is huge. Nothing all that exciting around Davis. It’s a farm. As for San Diego…

fenris did you get into UCSD? i havent seen you on these boards in forever

I agree that the area Davis is in is not that great, but the campus itself and the college town is to die for. It just gives off a good vibe. The people at Davis seem so damn happy compared to the people at SD.

South Coast Plaza is kinda cool to hang out at.

There plenty of things to do in Irvine.

In reality though it’s a suburb type place and never will be L.A so enjoy the low crime rate and safe environment

All these places you’re talking about aren’t in irvine.

scp = newport/costa mesa

irvine literally has nothing.

and no dallas, still pending

I have a couple of buddies who attend UCI and live in NB. They get by just fine with no cars too I might add. Irvine is wayy fun if you have an open mind about it… Lollicup, spectrum and the dollar theater, weather is great, awesome food and sushi around the area… Any UC you attend is fun including the city if you give it a chance and don’t act so negative about it.

La Jolla is also pretty sweet too but most of the fun things aren’t in La Jolla. UTC is about the only thing you got going for you… Sure if you drive 10 mins north or south, they’re are tons of things to do. Just need to give it a chance man…

how is it dumb? this is a clear cut example of the truth. the only other city that would even come close to matching la jolla is newport.

I’ve lived in San Diego for years and I’m constantly in La Jolla/on campus at UCSD. Yeah… to be honest the campus itself is pretty dead. It’s very similar to UCI. There are some cool places in SD to go if you have a car (PB, Gaslamp, etc.) but UCSD and the surrounding areas is pretty dead for a college town.

it’s not anywhere near as dead as merced and riverside, but it’s no santa barbara. i think la jolla offers more things to do than irvine though, and it being beachfront is awesome on its own

Ucsd and uci are hands down the two most similar of all the uc’s

City of san diego is better than irvine obviously, but most ucsd students live in their little la jolla bubble, with their whole foods and their peet’s coffee and their boba/yogurt. Ucsd is not reflective of san diego at all.

Both schools are incredibly asian
