What do you think are my chances at applying SCEA to Yale?

Sorry but none of our crystal balls are working at the moment. Can you tell us a little about yourself, please?

Know in advance that you'll get either of these answers: 1) your metrics fall short of the normally accepted students and therefore it will be a longshot or near impossibility or 2) your metrics DO fall within the standards of other admittees, then the only thing we can say is then it's still very subjective and almost a crapshoot given the overall low accept rate.

Good luck to you.

Here are my Stats

What do you think are my chances at applying SCEA to Yale?

I plan on applying Early Action to Yale this fall. I was wondering what you guys think are my chances at getting in? I know you guys know more about this than me and after reading some posts i thought it would be helpful. Here are my stats:

I plan on retaking it in Oct and am planning to beat the 2200 mark. I especially need to increase Math score I am much better than my score reflects lol.

I may be missing some, (I am doing this at work lol), but I will add them when I get home. I dont mean that to sound pompous but I just want to give you a better picture of me)

I am applying at the Ivies, etc.

A Note:

I escaped the Balkan War and came to US when I was 6. Learned English and have been doing above. I used to speak 4 languages now only 2 (English and Albanian). My high school is extremely competitive, especially for a public school, and our top 30 kids got into top 20 schools in nation.

I appreciate your help. Please help me identify my weaknesses and strengths so I have a better shot. I greatly appreciate your help! Good luck to the rest of you applicants (and competitors lol).

You have an excellent record, and should be able to gain admission to excellent schools. You are competitive for Ivy League schools, but I think you will find that there are many applicants with similar credentials. In other words, you might get into Yale, and you might not. Your scores are not high for Yale, although they are in the ballpark. Your ECs are good, but your personal recognitions are mostly school-based or local. It's important for you to have a good list of schools--it's fine to apply to Ivies, but you need to have some schools from the next tier or two that you really like, as well as a good safety or two.

thank you hunt. I plan on applying to top 20 schools also. Hopkins, Duke, Virginia, Chicago, and Pitt University, etc. I plan on being a doctor

If you are a resident of Virginia, U.Va. is a very good option. I think Pitt is probably a safe school, although I haven't looked at the stats. These days Duke is about as hard to get into as the Ivies.

Yeah i have heard that. Pitt is my safety option and it houses a great med school and the price cannot be beat, so i will be happy with it as well.

So Hunt, do you think I have a 50/50 chance or maybe not?

Chances are notoriously difficult to predict, but I'm going to say less than 50/50. So many kids apply who fit your profile--decent but not great stats and EC's--apply and get rejected. The trick is to make yourself stand out. Maybe you could talk about your heritage in your essay.

yalie367: Hunt is a great source of advice but NO ONE can give you a chance at 50/50 -- you are certainly viable but your essays and recommendations will determine a lot.

you have strong accomplishments. Move forward with that and apply to Y SCEA. Don't let the uncertainty of "what if they don't accept me?" hold you back. Best of luck to you

As T26E4 says, it's just so hard to predict. If your reason for applying to Yale SCEA is that it's really and truly your first choice, I think you should do it. But you shouldn't have any illusions about how tough it is. Applicants with your credentials--and even better credentials--get rejected. While obviously you can only apply to one place SCEA, no student should focus on one school too much, especially one as competitive as Yale.

"AP Scores:
Haven't gotten them back yet but I hope for 4 and above in Chem, Calc AB, English."

Hey, all AP scores have already been released...

your scores are really good but not spectacular for yale's standards, but escaping the balkan war is something that you can really highlight; with a couple of good essays you should be in pretty solid shape for yale

Not everybody has gotten their AP scores in the mail yet.

I am still waiting for my AP tests i look for them in the mail everyday. Do you think increasing my SAT score might improve my chances?

Yes of course. :)
